Ok, here's the scoop. When I was a senior in high school (2 years ago) I bought a used ti. It was a 1995 boston green base model...4 speed automatic. I kept it through my first year of college (last year) and had done a few mods to it, including a Dinan chip and a K&N air intake. It was running very well...a sweet drive. I wanted a few more bells and whistles, and I was looking into a S50 engine swap ('95 M3 motor) and all that changed this past summer when I got into a wreck. I totaled the car, and couldn't even open the hood to get the chip out. It was a total write-off. I can't tell you how upset I was.
So, being a big fan of how the ti drove, I was looking for another Bimmer. I was looking at E30's, and was about to buy one when I got a copy of the newspaper and found a '97 318ti. I had the money saved, plus a little that I borrowed, and I bought it. It's got some minor probs, like a dent and a piece of molding that fell off...but it's a 5 speed, leather interior, sunroof...it's an Active. I love it...still getting used to downshifting with the manual tranny (that was a lot easier with the automatic :flamed: .) So that's my story and I'm sticking to it...I love the way the ti drives...so much better and more responsive and more fun in general than any other car I've driven! ('Cept for a '87 635Csi, but that's another story now isn't it?)

im a senior in high school as well and have been driving my ti for about a year now. I started driving with a 1991 toyota camry. It was tan with poop colored interior but man i could beat the piss(hardcore beatings) and it would run like a champ. I drove that thing in the redline for half a year and now it still runs good. But any way i love my Ti just the way it drives and handles and how it can pick up chicks(you all know what im talking about) . Its sweet and now i have some money and doing a little modifacation to it so it will be a little more fun to drive. Maybe if i make enough this summer i can afford a dasc  but i dont know about that so we will see but long live the TI :2gun:

I was up in Pennsylvania for an airshow earlier this month, and while I was parked in a lot during the show, someone backed into my car. They didn't leave a note or anything as to who did it, so I'm at a loss. My grille has been mashed in pretty well, one of the chrome pieces and the slats in it have been knocked out, and my hood won't open. My left headlight is knocked out of line, and the corner light is not sitting flush like it's supposed to be. THEN, AS IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH, I ran over some sort of critter on my way to the hotel, and it knocked the plastic piece loose from behind the bumper, under the radiator. I had it hung up so it doesn't drag with Duck Tape and a piece of bailing wire (redneck fix, but at least I used black tape). I'M HIGHLY PISSED. They knocked out the fog light hole-covers and I lost one of them. My car looks....sad. I still had a 10 hour drive home, so the good news is that it didn't pierce the radiator...
So I took it to a body shop last week. I tell them I want the front bumper replaced with the M-tech bumper, since they were going to replace it anyway. They say "OK", and while they're at it, they're going to pull a dent that's on the front fender. That was there when I bought the car, but I'm not about to tell them that. Let them fix it!
I got a phone call on Wednesday morning...in a shaky voice, the man at the body shop tells me that someone broke into their lot, broke out one of my windows, and stole my stereo. OMG, I think my car is bad luck or something! The good news about it is that the shop is paying to fix the window, they're buying me a new stereo as well. More good news is that the window was off track (the regulator was messed up) so it wouldn't roll up or down, so they're fixing that without knowing it, and the radio that whoever stole was broken. The display didn't work on it, so they broke an already broken window and stole a broken radio. Talk about a dissapointment when they find that out. (=

My wishlist for Christmas is a carbon fiber hood, the M3 ltw checkered flag decal for the front corner, and then money so I can get closer to forced induction.

www.bmwplanet.com has a good cf hood in the for sale section. $350 and it has stainless steel brackets to support the hood shocks.

Id like to swap the auto transmission for a 5 speed and the engine for a 2.5 or 2.8 liter I6. For the interior Id like to replace it with a tan leather M3 interior.

Got some great pics of my car up on my photobucket site.... (http://photobucket.com/albums/y187/gooten1)

And I may be getting a new job in April after my temp job at an accounting office runs out. Met a guy here that works on and restores British sports cars. You know, the Triumph's, MG's, Minis, Jaguars, Bentleys...yeah. So I may be getting another toy when I start work there.

Update on my other cars; I have a 1974 VW Thing (resto project between myself and my best friend) which runs strong, drives well, and is ready to be painted, finally!

I have a '73 VW Karmann Ghia, which is pretty much scrap, but it has a good motor and transmission.
