begging the question, who will be first to try and get one of these new BMW turbo 4's into a ti. Surely it's the engine these cars have been waiting all their lives for?

from BMWBLOG (http://www.bmwblog.com/2011/11/16/kelleners-tunes-the-four-cylinder-n20b20-to-nearly-300-horsepower/)

"European tuner Kelleners begins work on the new BMW N20B20 turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The 2.0 liter unit offers 184 and 245 horsepower in standard form. The lower-powered unit is used in the 120i, X1 20i, X3 20i, 520i and Z4 sDrive20i models.
The more powerful powerplant is used under the hood of the 528i and new 328i models.
Kelleners ups the power output to 220, respectively 294 horsepower for the more powerful four-banger. The torque was also increased from 270 Nm to 324 Nm, and 350 Nm to 420 Nm.

The 294 hp and 420 Nm brings the performance of the 2.0 liter four-cylinder close to the 3.0 liter TwinPower turbocharged inline six-cylinder.
The impressive power upgrade is implemented with performance tuning modules that are connected to the original BMW connectors of BMW. Kelleners has not released the pricing for the power upgrades.
In addition, Kelleners achieved another impressive power increase for the BMW 1 Series M Coupe which now outputs 420 horsepower and peak torque of 590 Nm."

So basically sounds like they've made a 'tuning box' similar to the ones you can get for diesel engines... interesting...

I have been watching the insurance auto auctions for a donor car and it looks as though useable 328i's have been going for around 4K. It is a little pricey but considering what can be made from the twin spool 4 it is very attractive. Recent issue of European Car had a 328i that Fred Su of Evolution Racewerks added an intercooler, charge pipe, intake, down pipe, exhaust, and a juice box ECU that produced 312wrhp and 355 lb-ft of torque! That would make S54 power with less weight and fewer fitment issues. I'm with you - been toying with the idea for some time but not sure if I want to be the pioneer - HA!
