Loud Noise - Please Diagnose

Hello all,

I just purchased a 1997 318ti and have been enjoying it thoroughly. When I took it on a longer drive on the highway i was surprised as about 30 mins in I started to hear a high pitch screeching noise. The noise did not seem to be directly related to my RPMs as it continued for some time. I pulled over and shot the following video on my iphone. (see link below)

I was hoping that someone could give me any idea, I tried searching the forums but I don't see any one with what appears to be the same issue. I just bought this car used and it has approximately 110k miles on it. It has not done this since but I have not taken it for a lengthy drive since either.

On another note i have been reading this site since i bought the car on Saturday and was really impressed with how helpful everyone is, its awesome to know this community is here for support.

Much better. Sounds like a pully going bad. Bearings in it are shot or something. Did you pop the hood and get a general location of the sound?

I couldn't really tell where it was coming from, It almost sounded like it was from the MAF but it was loud and difficult to find. Perhaps it was from a pulley from underneath somewhere..
