I was wondering if anyone has, a 4 into 1 header.
I just picked up a stock header for $11 shipped and was looking at it and comparing it to Supersprints $900 header, and was thinking that I could probably do the same thing for alot less, (under $100) There are also a few raised spots in the manifold that could probably be ground and smothed out.
I was thinking about getting a 4 into 1 collector, carefully cut off the current 2 into 1 collectors, and pop on the new 4 into 1 collector, reweld it, and have the Down pipe connected to it so that there is no seperate down pipe that connects between the header and cat. So basically it would make the exhaust system more direct flowing.
My buddy has a welder, so it shouldn't be too bad of a project.

A good S&S custom header should cost you around $1500.00. The supersprint one if good but it's deffinetly not a race header. Are you familiar with air flow dynamic's?
When building a header there is some stuff that you need to keep in mind. All Exhaust runners need to be equal length it ensures that all cyl. burn at the same rate, at the exhuast port coming out of the head to the header each tube needs to be an 11 degree bank, and when the converge to the collector they need to be bank as well.
If you are going to due a custom set up you shoulc really use S&S Tube and then have it TIG welded vs. MIG welding an old factory header. A 4 to 1 will provide you better top end power and will expand you torque curve.

I am not planning on racing the car, and the reason why I want to do this is for a learning expierence, and this is alot more cost effective. This will be one of my first projects so if it doesn't turn out I am not too worried.
$1500 for a header is alot of $ for small gains
$1500 sounds pretty steep to me. You might pay that much if you just walk into a shop and have them make it for you, but if you are doing the work yourself, or if you can just become buddies with the people that will be doing the fabrication then you should save alot of money and get it closer to the $500 - $700 range.
