Help with 1996 318ti

Hey guys new to the forum but i got a question.
Friend wants to see me a fully loaded white 318ti. But he says all it needs is a new engine. Wants 800 for it, is it worth it? car has bout 90k on the body and the current engine. He says he thinks a bearing got spun in the engine so it is shot...Suggestions????

Tell him I'll give him $900 for the car!! hehe yes it is a good price... you can find a 4 banger 1.8L for $450 but if you are swapping the engine anyways, just try to get a 6 cyl engine... if you don't buy the car, make $100 and sell it to me!!! =)

I saw a guy in the 318ti.org classifieds selling a m44 engine from germany for $2000.
