The reason why I don't talk about girls on here is because I have a GF, and have no need to talk about other girls. I see this as a car forum, not a place to swap female stories and complain.

I like Swits.

She has good taste in cars, is witty, intellegent (has a business I think) so, that means she's hard working...

Looks quite beautiful in her photo too.

The catch is she's not my girlfriend. This is a problem.

Oh, yeah. And my ti got rear-ended (twice) Thursday evening, and is sitting quite dejected looking in the parking lot here at work. So, this is not turning out to be a good week, it seems.

That sucks dude. How bad is the damage? I'm guessing it's not too bad, if you're still driving it. Is insurance taking care of it?

i should have kept the girl that asked "so how fast does this thing go?" and was ecstatic after i took her through the twisties, getting the tires to sing. at the same time, don't try to impress a chick with your driving sKilLz. trust me, i've been pulled over and fined for it. if she asks, or responds well to being thrown around in her seat, then maybe give her a show.

i try to avoid telling people i own a bmw. i'll say i have a german RWD hatchback, and if pressed i'll tell them the make, but it usually doesn't get to that point. i'm wary because the chicks that are concerned about that tend to end up getting the boot anyway (sex and the city, drama queen, blingcentric future pornstars of america type)

if you want to impress a girl with your car, make sure it's clean (especially the glass) and open the door for her. don't push the chivalry, but it's a nice gesture that often goes forgotten. don't talk about all the mods; she probably doesn't care, or realizes that it will take away from time spent with her. unless of course, she's into cars and understands the differences between forced induction.

jack johnson or ben harper in the changer also works nicely, at least for the ones i'm interested in.

also, i've never met any girl that's responded well to "ladies."

at my school...driving a bmw is no big deal cause well...my school has the 2nd most expensive parking lot in the USA according to Jay Leno and the Tonight Show. there are kids driving m3's, z3's, porsche's, lexus, and the such.

a 10 year old TI isnt that big of a deal compared to a 2004 performance car that cost $25k or so compared to my $8.8k car

i try to avoid telling people i own a bmw.

Same, the woman I'm head over heels about doesn't know I own one.

My suggestion is to make a good impression by telling or showing them how special they are. I started off by sending her "the best" flowers from a secret admirer. I didn't let her know until a few days later that I sent the flowers. She was totally touched by the gesture and said no ones ever done anything like that.

I found out afterwards she had a bf. Shame about that.

She's the only girl I've sent flowers out of the blue from a secret admirer. I wouldn't do it again, unless I truely mean it.

Anyways, she thinks I'm the sweetest and is always delighted to see me :) Can you really blame her? :p

and the only reason i'm not saying three is because i've never looked for a pic of bmw318tiChic. so i hope i'm not offending anyone.

but personality always scores higher for me when becoming interest in a lady.

(note: i keep saying "lady" or "ladies." but not as in "the ladies" in the way that aceyx pointed out. i am referring to a lady such as the ones they had back in the days of knighthood. because i think just calling these three ladies "women" or "girls" just don't fit what they truly are. for those that i call "a lady," you have all of my respect. so here's to the ladies. and here's to the chivalry that we mentioned in earlier posts.)

(further note: i'm shutting up now. i promise. i have to go to class anyway.)

I tried to get my GF to buy a VW. She bought a Honda Civic last year. Atleast I did manage to convince her to get a coupe instead of a sedan. My brother has had every expensive car there is. His latest toy is a Lambourghini Mircielago. I took my GF out for a drive in his 2004 Porche Carerra 4S, and that was her first taste of a European sports car. Since I have now owned my 318ti, she seems to like it alot. Much more than my previous car (16V VW Scirocco). The point is, woman do want to be seen in nice cars.

I'm still amazed she ever got on my motorcycle, she was scared of bikes.
Here is a great pic of her on my Triumph.

When I go back to my brother's house next weekend to finish the M3 shifter, I will take pics of the Lambo. The car is amazing to see, and frightening to be in. We took it for a ride a month ago, and it will scare you how fast it is.

J!m, you are too sweet! *blushes* I can't even come up with a good witty reply!

I'm sorry about your car! :ashamed: I hope it gets taken care of very smoothly and quickly!

Well, thanks for the kind words. You ARE a beautiful person, particularly your eyes. I noticed those first...

Unfortunately, the car will not be repaired swiftly. Since I was not at fault, if I involve my insurance company (who will repair the car quickly) I will pay the deductable, and HOPE my insurance company gets the money from the person(s) at fault insurance company/companies. OR I wait, and have it appraised by the offending person(s) insurance company/companies, and they take on the bill for repairs, and I pay no deductable. I was not at fault, so I do not want to pay anything out of pocket. Not that I'm cheap, just proving a point.

So, long story short (too late) it will not be repaired quickly...

I plan to do my own appraisal as well, and determine a cost for parts and labor, and compare this to the insurance company's quote. This way, I'll know if they are quoting factory parts or not. However, it's pretty much guaranteed, as there are no real imitation parts for the rear bumper cover of a ti w/sport package. Sheetmetal, yes. But not the unique parts such as hatch and other 'ti only' parts. Front clip is available 'off brand'.

If I play my cards right, I'm hoping to get my mirrors and side skirts painted and installed, as well as that factory M3GT Sedan rear wing I'm dying to install... I'll loose my 'sleeper' status with this installed, but who cares at this point. At least it goes, if I catch any $h!t from the local ricers... I need a custom exhaust too. Perhaps I can get something done while the car is off the road.

By the way, how's the weather out in Seattle these days? Is it cold, like Maine, or more temperate? It's been frosting in the mornings here (like mid-late September in CT), but by now you have to watch for snow up there... Just curious.

first, this thread is hilarious. sydeshow, i hope you get that ti soon and keep posting on these boards because you had me rolling. seriously, get to class early more often.

recap from memory:

chicks don't get flowers enough, IMO. i was actually surprised when i sent flowers to a girl when i was a junior in undergrad, and they were the first ones she'd received. don't go overboard with this (it'll get old for her) and make sure you actually know her, stalker.

chivalry isn't dead, but nice guys don't get laid. probably because they're boring. don't be overly ambitious to impress a girl. if you get along, you get along. if you don't, consider it a learning experience on dating, and who you are (which go semi hand-in-hand, no pun intended). don't be all up in her face either, just do what you do and if you happen to hang out that's good. try and have fun; its contagious.

switz; i like your name. how old are you? (before i tell you that you're cute, to save myself from being a sketchy old man at 24 years).

j!m; who's your carrier? call them up, and talk to the operator by name, and ask them to cut you a check for the estimate and tell them to deal with the other insurance company. that's what you're paying them to do, that's their job. never get mad, people are more willing to help you out if they perceive you as a friend (e.g. you're friendly). good luck, let us know how it goes.

2ndspring; what do you do out in annapolis? i was wakeboarding on the south and patuxent rivers for most of the summer.

l84thsky; man, you know why chicks like bikes ;} but seriously, i agree (though i'm a sportbike type myself), sometimes it takes some nudging to get 'em on in the first place.

Just turned 21 in October!

It's pretty temperate. It's getting pretty cold though..about 50 during the day, 40 at night. It's starting to look the same all day long, just different shades of gray and the occasional awesome sunset on nicer days. Lots of fog and clouds...not as much rain as you might think, but some.

I live for summer, but once all the leaves fall off the trees, my apartment has a much greater view. =) I'm also really looking forward to taking my car up to go boarding soon!!

I got back from a trip to Killington yesterday. I drove 6 hours to Killingtonon saturday night just to board on sunday and drive home sunday night. It was awesome to ride so early in the season. I got to try my new board out and it was nice to be outside on the snow. Where do you usually ride?

Since Im late to this topic Im gonna chime in now. Ive been chilling with this girl for a while and she puts notes on my car some times. The most memorable one she left me was I like seeing your car but I like seeing you even more. I thought that was cute.

Whistker is my #1 if I can create the time off to go there. Otherwise I go to Stevens and Mt. Baker here in WA.

first, this thread is hilarious. sydeshow, i hope you get that ti soon and keep posting on these boards because you had me rolling. seriously, get to class early more often.

recap from memory:

chicks don't get flowers enough, IMO. i was actually surprised when i sent flowers to a girl when i was a junior in undergrad, and they were the first ones she'd received. don't go overboard with this (it'll get old for her) and make sure you actually know her, stalker.
haha. glad to be part of the entertainment around here.

and i hope you're not calling me a stalker. i knew the chick. we were good friends. haha. and i only sent them once. so...yep. no stalking here.

Thanks again for all the lovely compliments!! I lucked out cause my whole family is blonde, blue eyed, and Polish (I was even born in Poland). It's also why my name, Sylwia, has a W instead of a V. I won't even start about how much I can drink, hahaha.

J!M: Good guess! Like my IKEA shower curtain? hahaha

Well that makes two cute girls I know from Poland. The other girls name is Monica (it has some funky spelling I don't know since I never write her name).

Nice gesture *kudos*

Just keep in mind from a womans perspective (not that I am one, just have a lot of female friends :p), not telling a woman can eventually drive her crazy, and even have the opposite effect if they can't figure it out.

Sounds crazy, but I found it quite insightful from one of my friends.
yeah. i know. the driving her crazy part was one of the main reasons i never said anything.

plus, i'm sure she might have suspected me at one point in time. unless she was just completely uninsightful...in which case i wouldn't really want to date her at all. ya know?

I have a 1998 318ti and an ageing 525i. Both cracking cars but quite beyond my GF who constantly asks why we can't have a Merc. As if!

Eventually she said she wanted her own car so I suggested a Peugeot 205 or Renault Clio. So what do we get? A 1966 Morris Traveller; the one with the wooden bits at the rear.

An easy car to work on I grant you but..... It needs to be easy to work on; it requires constant attention.

I despair.

I know how you feel. Back in 1989, I owned a Triumph TR7 convertible. That car needed to tow a spare car behind it just incase I needed a part.

My love of Triumphs remained, and is now embodied in my 1979 T140E Bonneville (Motorcycle).

"Back in 1989, I owned a Triumph TR7 convertible. That car needed to tow a spare car behind it just incase I needed a part."

That's how I felt when I had XJ6 Jaguars. Always had to have a spare in stock to rob for parts.

The TR7 was always a load rubbish. It didn't matter what you did with it it was still rubbish. Motorcycles, on the other hand, were a whole different parts bin.

Although not quite as bad, I used to have a 82 Datsun 280ZX. I swear, something went wrong on that car every other week. I really think I spent more time under the hood than in the drivers seat. Only good side to this was it taught me alot about cars and I got alot of hands on experience (that and it drove me to buy a realiable car, aka 318ti).

I happened to read through this and I agree with the old comments about not wanting to mention the make of my car. Sometimes however the BMW name can be used to my advantage. The details of this particular event are hazy, but from what i remember there was a guy who thought he was cool because he owned a car that was faster and cost more than mine did, (It may have been a V6 mustang or something like that) but a girl said to me, "Don't worry about him, you're in a beamer!" I said to myself, "Sweet..." haha
