I may be able to shed some light on this car, having looked at it and driven it... (and wanting to buy it myself!)

Overall.. GREAT BUY! Don't let anything stop you from buying this car!

Body is in AMAZING shape with only small bubbles of surface rust starting on rear fenders. Undercarriage is BEAUTIFUL!!!

Engine runs smooth and well. Clutch holds firm but has soft take-up(not a bad thing, I am just used to a stiffer clutch)

Brakes feel ok, didn't notice more than a slight vibration, could have been tires or light corrosion on rotors from sitting after the rain.

Needs attention to:
-shift bushings (Less than $50 and an hour of your life gone)
-Dash backlighting needs to be looked at, most likely dimmer switch wiring.
-Dr seat backrest has the "E36 lean" to one side (could be latch is froze)
-Rear subframe bushings are shot
-Slight coolant weep in front on engine on drivers side of timing cover(couldn't see origination, most likely tstat cover/pipe) NO issues in overheating or oil/coolant mixing.
-exhaust needs to be tidied up ($250 in new parts or a visit to muffler shop)
-interior isn't pretty(accel pedal missing, door panels ugly, hvac console messy) but overall, worth taking the time to clean up!
-Steering shaft off 1 tooth (lol, not a big deal)
-Few trim pieces, covers in engine bay, etc... misc things need replacement.

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to pick this car up and Matt is a straight shooter.
(why am I hesitating you ask? Have to move, can't have two cars and until my MINI Cooper sells, can't pull it off without a garage to store in.)

Even if someone wanted an easy project car to clean up and resell... this is the one.
