BOTH CARS HAVE BEEN SOLD!

Hey, all! I got into the ti's fast and deep, but life has thrown me a couple curve balls this year, and I'm selling both my 98 Avus Blue 318ti's. I really like this car, and had all kinds of plans for it, but things have changed, sadly. I have included quite a number of pictures of both cars and honest descriptions, as I don't want to waste anyone's time, including my own.

Location: Portland, OR (SE Woodstock area)
Price: $2000 OBO for the modded non-running
Contact: (Text Message) Five Oh Three - 753-78 Thirty Nine
(email) erikwitkamp at gmail

Car 1: SOLD
1998 318ti - Avus Blue Exterior/Gray Interior
5 speed manual
<116k miles
Clean title
All equipment works, no malfunction lights, drives like a champ (was my daily driver until a couple weeks ago.)
Entirely stock except for Python 2-way paging alarm.

It's a very clean car with scrapes, dings, wear, etc. that are reasonable for it's age/mileage. Some scratches have been touched up and driver's side outboard seat bolster had a tear which was repaired and doesn't look too great, but better than a hole, IMO. When I was looking to buy a 318ti, this was the cleanest I found, around these parts.

Maintenance since I have had it includes oil changes (OEM synthetic), Bosch Iridium plugs, coolant system flush and replacement of thermostat and water pump (pre-emptive) as well as both belt tensioners and the lower radiator hose. I also had the steel wheels replaced with OEM alloys. They currently have some low-miles, good condition Michelin X-ice tires on them.

This is a car that can be picked up and driven away across the country, no problem. Asking $5000

Additionally, I have a Club Sport small case LSD, and a mess of brand new parts from autohausaz that I was going to use to refresh the entire cooling system on the running 318ti, but haven't had the time to do so. I would like to include all this with the sale of this car, as they are things this car would like and/or will eventually need.

Car 2: SOLD
1998 318ti M-Sport - Avus Blue Exterior/ Black Interior
5 speed manual
~215k miles
Clean title
Very rough condition, but has quality mods!

Previous owner said it blew a head gasket and that it was vandalized while parked for repairs.

------
UPDATE: I just started the car for the first time, today. 6/14 The battery is toasted (I'll see about getting a reconditioned on), but it fired up with a jump and did not have any check engine lights. I moved it back and forth in the driveway a bit. So, it is drivable. I don't know for how far it would go, but at least it's maneuverable. It appears to have had the thermostat removed, because it does not warm up.
------

It is an M-Sport with Racing Dynamics 17" wheel, vented rotor front brake upgrade, H&R springs, Bilstein Sport shocks/struts, K-Mac camber plates, Dinan Intake, (Supposedly Dinan ECU, as well, but I can't verify.)

The lovely vandalism included virtually every panel scratched with a knife, every tire sidewall was punctured and the driver door lock was ripped apart to get inside the car to steal the stereo.

There is also damage to the rear driver side quarter panel and the windshield is cracked, as pictured. The water pump was installed using some goop (as opposed to or in addition to the o-ring) and there were a couple empty bottles of coolant system sealant in the rear hatch, when I got the car. So, it was obviously not repaired propertly. I haven't ever tried to start it.

The upshot to this car is that the wheels don't appear to be bent (some scratches), suspension seems intact/serviceable and the Dinan intake is there (just needs a new filter, the shield/bracket is in the hatch). The rear M-Sport bumper is in good enough shape to be reconditioned and all the 318ti specific glass is in good shape. The Sport seats are in salvageable condition and the shift knob has an //M on it...score!

My plan was to either repair this beat-up car (engine swap/FI?) or just salvage the M-Sport/performance parts and put them onto the nice ti.

I'd like $2000 obo for this car.

Sorry, the pictures of this car are terrible...it's wedged into my narrow driveway, making it so I can't back up for a good shot!

I could give you 700 and you keep the wheels if you want, its got a lot of sweet parts, but its really just a parts car that aside from springs and maybe a few other things isn't worth a whole lot

Well, Xer0 wants to take the car, but I don't think we're QUITE on the same page with money...maybe you two (Xer0 and 1orange2) should get in touch and see if you can't work out who wants what and go in on it together? I also have the LSD with new seals...

I definitely want it gone, and am prepared to take a bit of a loss, since my plans changed, but I don't want to just give it away :P

Nice Alpine White, btw. I don't know why, but it looks really good with the roof rack!

Im sorry I'm not gonna pay you more than 800 dollars for a broken car that might have some cool parts on it, but in the end it is a broken down and vandalized car with 215k on the clock. I think i'm being realistic here... my bad

That's fair enough. You want to pay what you want to pay. No argument, there, that's why I was saying that if you two went in on it, together...maybe he wants things you don't want, you both pay less and I get paid more. Everyone wins. Sorry, if that was confusing.

Just to be clear, it was vandalized BEFORE I bought it...One of your emails makes me think you believe this was recently for sale before being vandalized...not to my knowledge. I bought it in this condition and am just trying to get most of my money out of it. Maybe I paid too much, but I obviously don't think so.

If that doesn't sound like a plan you want to pursue, and you have no intention of spending any more than $800 on this car, then that's fine. I'm just not willing to do that, at this point. Peace and good luck ti'ing! :)

UPDATE:

The "parts car" is running. I had never tried to start it (battery was toasted), but jumping it with another car allowed it to fire up and idle without issue...no check engine lights, no overheating. I know the previous owner had someone monkey around with it and I believe the thermostat is removed from the thermostat housing, as the car does not seem to warm up, and I recall seeing a loose thermostat in the junk-filled hatch.

That being said, it appears to be drivable, but I wouldn't trust it for any long distances without further investigation. It just means it can be maneuvered and is not a huge PITA.

The current battery is charging, out of the car, and I will replace it with a reconditioned one if it doesn't come back to life.

Both cars are sold. I almost had to yell, "Stop!", when the M-Sport pulled away...looked too cool :/
