I have 7.5 inch width rear wheels and was wondering if i can fit 245's on them?

Specifically, i wanted to put 245/40 17's on them.

I wouldn't.

I don't think you can fit 245s without running (atleast that's what I've heard).

What would be the widest possible on a 17x7.5 wheel? I would prefer a staggered effect but all 4 wheels are 7.5inch wide.

go with 235s, I believe those will fit without any rubbing issues. Why do you want a staggered setup? You can still but narrower tires on the front, but what would be the point?

My ideal combo would be 225/45's in front and 245/40's in back...i want to have as much rubber on the rears. I just think it looks better from the back.

would it be 235/40's then?

Yes, 235/40 would be the right size. The '95 Motorsport wheels are 17 X 7.5 and they were fitted with 235/40's on the '95 M3. I have read on this board and several others that 235 is the max for these wheels.

I bought a set of German Rial rims 17" X 7.5". I was looking at my choices of tires by Dunlop. I am very loyal to Dunlop tires, so I want to use them. The problem is, there is only one choice in ultra performance tires that Dunlop makes in 235/40/17. But if I select 235/45/17, there are many. Does anyone see a big difference in a slightly higher profile? Is 235/40/17 an unusual size, or is it just Dunlop that doesn't give me many choices in that size?
