I have a 97 318ti with about 156K miles and I am on the original clutch and I reciently installed a DASC, Ive been real nice to the stock clutch but I figure IF I want to really launch Ill eat my old clutch pretty fast,
SO
Ide like to get a clutch which would be good for the uprated power but dont feel like I want to go full racing clutch as I will still DD the car occasionally they lots of traffic,
Is there a nice uprated clutch kit I can get?
If so,
Should I get new flywheel?
Lightened ?
Please links and suggestions,
Ide like to buy parts soon and get them in sometime in the next couple months.
Thank you
Peter

I don't get it,
I read about engine swaps,
Folks here making cars from 3 other BMWs and other amazing things telling about what fits from which car and a simple clutch question and Zip,
Maybe I am just a doofis and this clutch question is such a simple thing ? ? ? ?

From my personal knowledge I wouldn't go lightweight flywheel unless you plan on tracking the car seriously. I'd get a standard stage 1 or 2 clutch for our cars and get it installed.

I agree, I have been told not to go with a lighter flywheel for dd, just a heavier pressure plate if anything..

I'm the other school, I love the throttle response of a light flywheel.

I like the M42 Non dual mass flywheel with a upgraded pressure plate. My personnel favorite from having them in several trucks and race cars is a Center-force dual friction.

You can beat the hell out of them and they keep on going.. In a revvy engine like the 318 it really works. You do have to get used to the pedal pressure changing when you rev the engine.. I don't even notice it any more.. some don't like it..

Ive had these smoking from abuse let them cool and they are right back at it..

What kind of power does the dasc make? Like 200hp? Wouldn't an M3 clutch/flywheel work?

That center force clutch is pretty cool, I didn't realize they made one for our cars.

Lots of threads about this if you search.

Cool thing is the centerforce is the same weight as the stock cover, which is lighter than the M3..

If you saw what I did to the one in my Jeep ,, you'd be a believer that's for sure... I used my jeep to move a log that fell across a road blocking my way out... Had the clutch nearly on fire.. and its still in there 75K later.. Whith numerous other abusive things done to it...
