I've been reading throught the older posts in this section and found many answers to my questions, but I also got a little confused with a few things. I've been looking for wheels for a while now and want to know what size tire I will need for a 17x8 wheel so the spedometer will be acurate. I'd also like some nice, wider tires. So, how wide can I go, with what aspect ratio, so I don't compromise the acuracy of my spedometer??

thanks! :mrhappy:

225/45 - 17 will probably suit you just fine. you could probably even fit 245/40s

Cool! Thanks! =)

Is steering noticably harder with 245's compared to 225's?

You may get more tramlining.

check out this link.

and if you're really curious Tirerack has the exact diameter/circumference available for every size of every tire. Find the tire you're interested in and click "statistics" I think. More info than you'll ever want to know. :p

OH, YEAH! I get serious tramlining on badly worn interstates where the truck have made 'rails' for me. It's a bit interesting the first few times...

(245 front, 275 rear on my car)

Well, considering that I get some tramlining with my current tires, I'll probably get 225's. I drove an old Firebird around for a few days a while back and I don't know how fat the tires were on that thing but it tramlined so bad it was hard to drive straight. I don't know how you do it, Jim! =)

I usually change lanes, or just drive faster and glide over the top of the road...

You get used to it, but it's a bit scary the first time for sure...
