View Full Version : flywheel locking tool goes where?

Can someone please explain to me where the flywheel locking tool is supposed to go? The Haynes manual is very vague/no photo. :help:

Hopefully, I'll have the head off tonight...stand by for photos of the carnage. :yikes:

uh...I think I'm looking for a little plug to pull out and stick the locking tool into it. It's more like a dowel-type thing that just goes straight into this plug, but I can't see any plug.

If all you are doing is disassembling the head from the rest of the engine you don't need to lock the flywheel. Re assembly is a little different you use dowel pins and a cam shaft locking tool.

You're right...my first post kinda made it seem like I was waiting on that in order to remove the head, didn't it?
Staying up 'til 2 am causes temporary illiteracy. :dizzy:
The head should come off in a few hours.
But I will eventually need to find this plug. Oh well, my Bentley manual will be here in a week.

Back from the dead anyone? I can't find it on my 96 auto ti. HELP PLEASE!!!???

It's located above the starter under the intake side. There is a plastic plug which needs to be removed to access it. It almost impossible to see, but you can feel around for it.

Same issue. Did you find the position for the tool? I'm going to look again based on the previuous responder but still not very clear to me.
