Hello i'm new to this forum. I have been doing searches and reading the articles. the question is which year is he best year?. i know the m42 engine very well and with a chip and k & N panel filter, it is pretty peppy. (i have driven a e30) I also know that there is a 100 pound difference between the e36 ti and the e30. anyhow i have read that you cannot chip a m44. my question is why would you buy the m44 if it doesn't have any potential. I wanted to just get a chip and panel filter on a Ti, but i dont know which engine. Which model should i get?

You can get a chip for a M44, but it doesn't matter either way really. Both will do little in terms of power. I've had both 42, 44 and honestly I couldn't tell a difference.

Dinan has a chip for the M44.
Either engine you can install a Dowing Atlanta Supercharger.:drunk:

thank you for the replies. Has anyone took out the power boost valve(the thing that increases fuel pressure in the fuel rail) i have been reading european magazine which seems to recommend this for the m44 engine and then chipping it. Has anyone else heard or done this before?

chips are over rated...if you have a ti, there's almost no extra power to be gained. only good thing about chipping is it takes off your govenor. is that worth $400 to anyone here? NO go to you're bmw dealer after you get your first performance upgrade, and have the redu your computer for that mod, and ask the to take off the govenor while you're there
