New rims - need tire suggestions

Just got some new rims for my ti, 19x8.5 Mille Miglia Evo5, offset of 44. Looking around for rubber right now, probably gonna try to find a set used, or find a few pairs used and put them together (cashflow isn't that great right now)

Anyways, wondering what you guys recommend for tire sizes? I had 225/50/16 tires and rdsport rims on it before (which i'll probably keep for winter). I'm thinking 235/35/19, but wondering how wide I can really go.. Was reading that Jared from this forum put on 265s and J!m put on 275s.. I dunno if I would go that wide, but what do you guys recommend and what options am I open to? I just got some bilstein sports w/ eibach pro's (waiting to be installed right now). Should look pretty sweet when they're on it. Here's a picture attatched.. let me know what you guys think.

You can go as wide as you want with in reason you may just have to roll your fenders. For the stock fenders the biggest I think you will be able to go is 235, but I could be wrong it all depends on the offset and backset.

Yeah thats what I was thinking.. I always read about people rolling fenders, never actually looked up what is involved in doing so though. What do they actually do, how hard is it to do? Think its a DIY, or take it to a shop... if a shop how much you think they'll end up charging?

if you're looking for best bang for the buck in tires go with the kumho ecsta supra 712. excellent grip, wear fast (all the soft compounds do) but will run you under $100/tire.

they're a favorite among porsche club-racers, for the price/performance this tire offers.

You can call tire rack and they will rent a fender roller to you. All they charge is a deposit that is returned (A few hundred $$) and then shipping which is $15.00. So it basically cost $15.00. I think there is a 6 month waiting list at the moment so you better call now.

How it works is it hooks up to the hub and the there is a swivel point and then a urethane roller. I recommend using a heat gun to warm up the paint that way you don have those cracks caused by stretching. You pretty much roll them as much as you want.

As for the tires the best dry tire is a Falken Aziena. They're SCCA rated race tires and are so soft that you can scratch the tire with your finger nail. Although you will have to replace them every four thousand miles or so depending on how you drive. It just depends on what kind of driving you do.

alright, thanks for the replies.. I'm definately not buying tires so soft that I gotta replace them every 3 or 4k miles.. I want them to last as long as possible... i'm a value based guy :)

i got around 12k from the kumhos.

right now i have their new asx tire and it seems like it's going to last at least 3x as long. less grip, but still impressive performance.


if you're in bc, shouldn't you be looking at snowtires, or at least have several months before you think about summers?

haha, yeah i'm in bc.. just looking around doing some searching for rubber.. I got those rims sitting in my basement and I won't put them on until spring/summer anyways. I'm just looking around now to see if i can find a good deal on some used tires or do a bit of research on some new ones that might last a while

this is the last time i push the kumhos, but i was really impressed with the price for performance. if you search for it under tire rack you see the competition is usually twice the price.

i got rid of them because i need a more commuter-based tire. the ti in stock form doesn't really take full advantage of the grip, and i wanted something that lasted longer.

EDIT: what are you running for snows? my garage got looted over turkey day and i'm in the market again.

right now, i have 2 mud and snow tires on steels, 4 original bmw bottlecaps on all seasons, 4 racing dynamic 16"s on summer tires (one tire is ripped apart due to a nail on the freeway), and i got some 19"s now, as posted above.

I think I just sealed the deal on tires for the 19s... someone had some dunlop sp9000s for a good deal. Set of 4, fronts are 245/30/19 and rears are 245/35/19. have ~ 500 miles on them, and he says they are basically brand new. Tirerack retails them for $790, I'm basically paying half that and we're splitting the shipping... what do you guys think?

... I'm gonna get rid of my original bottlecaps once I get new rubber for my RD rims....
