Bought my ti today...

Bought my ti today, 1998 318ti Sport with 58,800miles on it for $11k

So far I am loving it, got big ole fatty swaybars on it and handles great. Just need to get that DASC on there and upgrade the clutch/flywheel and I will be set.

If you have big ole fat sway bars on the rear you must reinforce them. The mounts will break!

The previous owner had them fixed and reinforced, I have all the service receipts for the last 4-5yrs of service.

my advice? learn how to drive the car in it's stock form. when you're proficient there, then do the forced induction upgrade. in my experience, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than to drive a fast car slow.

when i say proficient i'm talking 4 wheel drift turns. that car ain't happy unless the tires are singing.

Sorry...

My last daily driver was a WRX with aftermarket larger turbos, FMIC, etc... I like fast. Prior to that was a '97 Mustang Cobra, supercharged...

I drove a couple E36 325 & 328's but I found the ti to be more "tossable" and more fun to drive... I would've looked for an M3, but after paying for insurance on the WRX and Cobra, I am ready to stop shelling out some much to Safeco...

I figure this will serve as a fun daily driver and provide a good platform for playing with.

righto, it's hard to tell how old people are around here. i think the ti is a great place to start, and great to drive even without mods. don't forget to do brakes before the blower.

but personally, my own time and money go into something with two less wheels (that could kick all your cars' asses! :))

Yeah, I had an early Ninja 600 a while back... At about 110-ish it FREAKED me out. Going that fast with nothing around me was thrilling, then terrifying. Part of the problem was that bike just didn't weigh enough for that speed so it just didn't feel stable.

I have a 99' sport. I paid $10,100 a few months ago. But I had a lot more miles like 90K. I wish I had heated seats though. Not like I need them in Cali.

I think the price was still at the high-end of what was reasonable, but the prev owner put a lot of the upgrades on that I would have, so I was able to justify the higher price to myself... In addition it was really well cared for (Motul brake fluid, Mobile 1 Synth changes, garaged, etc.) which counts for a lot. He also has a Z3 2.3 which he drove most of the time so the ti had pretty low mileage.

I bought my 1998 318ti in August with 31K miles, paid $10,500. The interior was mint, and so was the car. You have many options/accessories I don't have, and you only paid $500.00 more than me. Overall, I think you got an excellent deal. Mine is not M3 styling, no cruise, side airbags or fog lights. When you add up those features, they offset the extra $500.00 plus and 28K miles. I was gonna buy a car just like yours in blue, a 1999 M3, but the dealer wanted around $13,000, and it had 67K mikes.

I hear ya. My first love is my 1979 Triumph Bonneville T140E. It's a kick start only classic. Took it for a ride with my GF last Sunday in full leathers.

Speaking of clutch and flywheel, I just ordered a TMS 9 pound flywheel. I will let you know how that goes, and if there is any difference.

With the mileage, condition and mods I would say you got it for a very fair price. Since there's no such thing as a Used Car Factory, you sometimes have to pay a bit more for the car that's really what you want. Enjoy your ti!
