Tonight was def. a night that set my definition of BMW as "the god" of all vehicles. On my way home from eating with a few friends, i followed through traffic at about 80mph, i made a quick glance at my phone and hesitated to turn and i had to jerk the wheel to correct myself. My 318TI's rear end quickly slipped from behind and i continued into the curb and went air born into a strip of land by the highway, hitting the wall, bouncing off to only land on all four wheels. My friend who followed behind proceded to the vehicle with caution, affraid to check if i was alive or not, and i started crawling out of the window to see a trail of shattered peices and a box of metal which was once my BMW. This is what i needed inorder to slow down, my friends also had a change in opinion about speeding. I will have pictures tomorrow of the car i crawled out of with minor bruises, a broken finger tip, and some cuts on my left hand.

I know that was alot but it def. wasnt enough to stop me from pruchasing another BMW in the near future.

Thanks and god bless to anyone else who has experienced the same wreck.

a crash you can walk away from is always a good one. glad to hear you're alright.

my brother and i walked away unscathed from a totaled 735i. my brother then wrecked the ti i'm driving now, and totaled another (we had two). so yeah, they're really safe cars.

WOW! I'm so glad that you walked away without hurting yourself too bad! The damage on the car looks much worse than what I had imagined! You can hardly tell it's a ti!

Just curious- did the airbags deploy? Was anyone in the rear seat? The rear looks like it's about 10" behind the front.:dizzy:

Congrats on surviving and having the smarts to know it's a second chance on normal life.

Wow, that was some crash. Am really glad you are for the most part OK, hate to see any of us BMW brethren or sisters hurt. Makes me think about the way I drive, which is too fast most of the time. If it is any consolation, you have probably made alot of us examine our driving habits. Hope you stay with BMW's, our ti's are probably the best kept secret as far as performance/reliability/safety per dollar is concerned. You can replace the car, can't replace your life. You are probably feeling pretty bad right now, you'll be down the road in another ti in no time. Let me know if you need help finding another reasonably priced ti. Take care and God bless, it will all work out.

Man I'm glad to see you came out that that ok. I had a similar experience, but it was in a 93 prelude. I lost control going around a turn at about 85 and launched off a bank into the air. You can still see the marks in the trees about 30 feet off the ground where my car was being treated like a pinball. I finally landed at the edge of a river right side up. I also walked out with no minor scraped and bruises. I had just gotten back from my first Driver's Ed at Carolina Motorsports Park and thought I was Michael Schumacher... apparently not. I didn't have another sports car until the ti and now I only drive really fast on closed courses. Thought I would share my expereince.

The airbags did not deploy but i am having a lawyer contact BMW about that to see if we can get any money back from this

tiyler, im sorry to hear about your friend. People like me never learn from the horror stories and never took them as words of wisdom untill now, i never want to see my friends (who saw the wreck) that worried again, and if some innocent driver was hurt, I dont think i could ever forgive myself.

Thanks, Derek

that's insane. I know of cars that didn't even have half that much damage where kids were killed. You are one lucky mofo.

You're trying to extort money from BMW because the airbags didn't go off in a non-frontal impact accident? Based on your count of events, you're lucky they didn't go off because you'd likely have added "powder burns on my face" to the list of injuries.

Lucky to be alive, as I'm sure you already know. A crash like that will really put things into perspective to you. Be safe in the future, my friend. Some people aren't lucky enough to get second chances.

Wow man, thank God you're ok. When I wrecked my Golf the airbag hit me in the face and took off a layer of skin on my cheek. It was really gross looking. Oh and it sprained my right wrist, so I had to wear a brace for a while. Went to class the next day and told everyone I'd gotten in a bar fight. You wouldn't believe jus how many kids believedthat one.

lucky to be alive and i'm sure you'll say "screw the cell phone!" next time. inattentive driving at just about any speed can be deadly. glad you're still with us.

I am mostly impressed [aside from your good luck] with the way the cabin stayed close to its original shape. Obviously the car is as strong as it feels and was money well spent for you. I almost bought a new Elantra GT but didn't because the crash test rating was poor. The driver's area looked worse than your car in the Insurance Institute tests.

I couldn't find crash test Data on the ti. Until now.

What a wakeup call for all us distracted types!

Isn't graditude awesome?
