The teenager blew one of the speakers in the wife's 318ti. :ashamed:
I want to upgrade the speakers to something that wont fall victim to another heavy metal tune.
Who can tell me where to get the specs (make/model or peak/rms power ratings) on the stock tape deck/reciever amp?
Thanks,
Stan

Stock amp runs 20w x 10.

Sorry but my understanding of "20W x 10" would be ten channels @20W peak. Do u mean 20W peak/ 10W RMS per channel? I wouldnt think the stock amp would support 10 channels but hey if I knew I wouldnt be asking. :?
Also, I took my first look at the actual speaker layout and both front and rear speakers appear to be components rather than coaxial based on the grill work. There are seperate grills for the bass and treble in both door and rear speakers. Are there simply coaxial speakers installed under the grill work?
That rear install looks hairy; I couldn't find any obvious screw covers (but it was at night). Any comments on ease of replacing the blown rear speaker system?
:)
Thanks for the help!

I believe its 20 watts RMS x10. 6 component channels to front, 4 to rear.

the rear speakers are accessible through the carpet in the abbreviated trunk. IIRC, there are only two places the carpet is actually held down, the rest is just pressure fit.
pull down directly over the rear wheel well. pull out around the edges, lift the floor carpet at the tie down and detach the carpet (1), then fold the seat down, pull the remaining back piece up and out from the passenger compartment, and remove the remaining carpet (2).
you may not even need to go that far, but just in case.
