hey everyone, I'm looking to get an exhaust for my auto Ti. At first i was leaning towards the Stromung, but i don't know if it's too loud or what not. Now I'm leaning towards the Supersprint exhaust because it seems like everybody here like it, not too loud, but not too quiet.
But which Supersprint exhaust do you guys have? The single rectangular tip or the dual tipped one?
Basically, I'm looking at getting either the Stromung ($475), Supersprint (single tipped rectangular, $450), or the other Supersprint (dual tipped, from $650-$875?)
So, which one do you guys think i should get?
(keep in mind that my car's Auto, i don't know if it really matters though)
Thanks guys

Randy,
I remember you asked me about this at the 318 meet. I am still leaning towards the Stromung. I don't know if you remember my friend Dave that came to the meet, but he had a supersprint on his car.
Either way you go, I wnat to see how it turns out.

I have a Dinan muffler on my auto TI. I bought it from somebody used for cheap (it retails at $850). If you can find a Dinan, even used, they sound incredible....especially with the supercharger.

I have a Supersprint (single rectangular tipped) on my auto and I think it sounds great for an exhaust. If you get the dual tip, you will have to cut out some of your bumper off to fit them in.

Thanks for your responses guys.
Yeah Chad, i remember your friend Dave from the meet. Unfortunately, i didn't hear his car. The whole time i was there his car was turned off. I like the Stromung sound (from clips via www.understeer.com), but I heard that its really loud, too loud for some people. That's why i was considering the Supersprint. I heard the tone is good but its not too loud. In addition to that, i heard that the Supersprint gave the most power against other exhausts, but it didn't go up against Stromung.
I found this site, its kinda old but i think its pretty useful. (http://www.digest.net/bmw/archive/v5/msg02278.html)
Chad, do you know if the Stromung is louder than your exhaust on your 318is?
Thanks

I had a Bosal on my car. The list got a group buy from Olympic Auto Parts (IIRC). I was very happy with it on my 96 ti. It was a perfect fit, not too loud, nice throaty sound.

The one i found was at www.evosport.com. Put 1997 e36 on the pull down thingy and go under exhausts. It is under resonators with Supersprint. $450 for the rectangular one and it's a catback (I think). (By the way i still didnt get an exhaust haha. hopefully soon)

i was in a 318is wiht supersprint exhaust it seemed like my car without the exhaust was louder than his car wiht supersprint, so supersprint is really quiet, then i was in a 325is wiht stromung well that was nice throuthy, deep sound.

The exhaust wars go on.......
I like my Stromung, very throaty. But looking back, the main reason I wanted a new muffler was so I could hear the engine. When I shift gears, I listen to the engine, I don't read the tach. By having a louder exhaust, I can hear when to shift. The stock exhaust was so quiet, I had trouble hearing the engine rev.
No regrets, but surely no HP gains.

does anyone know which exhaust gives the most HP?

this helped me, but doesn't include everything.

thanks for that , So is 2.0 hp and 3.1 Nm alot? I dont really know what that translates to.

no, it's not a lot. you're not going to get much with a new exhaust (some even hurt output). only reason i was replacing mine is because the original was failing (had to be cut out too). i just installed while doing a diff change, but i got a bad halfshaft so i can't make much comment yet. it is not much louder than stock, but a different tone by far, deeper.
I have a Supersprint and it is very quiet and I think thats the main reason I love it because its not overpowering. The exhaust is loud enough to hear it but not loud enough to get annoyed with it. Plus I like to hear my DASC wind up more than hear my exhaust growl. If I had to choose all over again I would do the same.

is that why you're putting a bunch of money into car audio to drown out the exhaust? ;)

Custom fitted Borla:

Cost less than Supersprint and it sounds really good. Its fairly quiet at low rpms but opens up nicely past 3,500-4,000 rpm.

Hey everybody,
Thanks for responding to this thread hehe.
I FINALLY got my exhaust installed.
I ended up getting the Hartge one (Basically a SS)
I really like it and it sounds real deep, but it's not too loud, the volume of the growl is perfect, not really overpowering.
Hopefully this thread will also be useful to other people.
c-ya guys later

Great choice! Even though it's made by Supersprint it is slightly louder. I love my Hartge exhaust and I'm sure you will love yours!
Cheers,
