Weird shifting issue

Car has all five gears but has to be forced into first, third, fifth, and reverse. But once it is in it gear it stays in until I press the clutch and it pops out of gear. The car is easy to get into second and forth.

How often should this be done? Looks like a pita, but my tranny is already out, so...might as well, right?

Yes. it is a good idea if it is already out. If it shifted into gear without any hang-ups...it should be fine. Any issues with shifting at all...change these out.
