1998 Ti with factory installed keyless entry recently started malfunctioning. When using the remote it has been beeping at me the sound when a door is open or slightly ajar but fails to activate. I have checked all the contact points (with exception of the hood which I will do this evening) and all seem to be in working order. I orginally thought it was the hatch or maybe the battery in the remote(s) was low so I got out my spare set of keys remote. Same thing.
Any ideas?
If one were to replace the system (BAV Auto $360.00) how difficult is it to remove old module and put in a new one?

I know what you mean. I have a 97 Ti and it happens when i open the trunk and close it. Same with my driver door. What I do is simple open and close them again. It usually works for me. Other than that, I don't really know what to do about it. Sorry if i was'nt much help to you.

Both times that this happened to me, it was the contact under the hood. I bent it up a little and it worked like a charm. I guess I leaned on it or something when I was under the hood.
I would guess that as long as it's receiving a signal and chirping, the module is probably not bad. No scientific reasoning for that, just a hunch.
Good luck!

Just had this problem with the underhood microswitch. Except in this case, Wifeypooh thought it was a Hood Release and bent it the wrong way and didn't tell me. Thanks for clearing up the mystery!
