View Full Version : 2 plastic water pipes

Hey guys I have an M44 engine. I read somewhere that if my engine was older. (96) I should be concerns about 2 plastic water pipes at the back of the engine. Anyone know of this? If so any particular part numbers? Any help is appreciated, thanks. I wanna take all preventive maintenance measures as possible to keep her runnin like a champ.

Definitely replace these two pipes preventatively. When they let loose they do so suddenly with resultant engine overheating which can be catastrophic for M-44's. Another tip: ANYTIME your temp guage moves past 12 o'clock, pull over immediately and determine the source of the overheating. Experienced BMW hands will tell you that if you experience sudden coolant loss driving at speed you have only seconds to shut the engine down to avoid a blown head gasket or worse. The reason: all BMW's have aluminum heads and many have aluminum blocks as well. Heat kills aluminum engines. Almost forgot: you can get the pipes' part numbers from realoem on the net. There's a pipe against the fire wall and another on the driver's side that are plastic and can fail with age...strongly recommend doing the squid lines under the manifold while you're there
