I made a post in the engine section about a goup buy on some m42 and m44 shrick cams. If your interested please vote and post here or in the other section. The price per cam is $395 and if we get at least 10 people E.S.E will give us a lower price. I'm getting an e-mail from them soon about a better price. I am interested, but I don't want to pay about $800 on cams, so if we can get it lower then that will be great. Thanks, Will.

Can the cams be any grind, or do they all have to be the same?

Yeah, I think they can be any grind, idk the details until I get their e-mail. $395 is the normal price per cam so it would be $800 for both cams unless you have a single cam engine which I doubt any ti has. So the price will definetly be under $395 per cam.

They say there's no such thing as a stupid question, but I still feel sheepish for asking....
what are the benefits of new cams?
*baa*
I tried to get one of these going a while back and it fizzled. Anyways, the best price I found was from Bimmer performance.
4 = 15% off 5 to 9 = 20% off 10 and over = 30% off
I believe their prices were ~$800 a set, so if you can make this thing fly then they would probably be your best source. If you can get 10 then I'd be game for this.

anyone know how much it would be to install these things? do you have to remove the motor to take off the head? any special tools required?

What other changes (if any) would you want to make at the same time?
What are the anticipated performance gains from this change?

If you are doing cams you might as well port and polish the head, new lifters are recomended, Might as well do the head gasket , and other gaskets while you are in there.

Estimated cost to port & polish, new lifters, replace gaskets?
New valve springs are a definite must when going with a high lift cam. I really have no clue what the costs would be, but if you were to call some local shops and get a price for a rebuilt head then that would give you a good starting point.
