Heater control panel help needed.

Hi all. Just become the owner of a 2000 avus blue m sport ti and I am starting to do all the bits required to get it back to its former glory and put my own stamp on it. My first issue I have noticed is that I can't adjust the directional knob on the heater panel. It moves around some of the way but not 360 degrees.if I disconnect the cable then I have full movement. Any suggestions?
