Would this air intake combined with theheat shield really be more effective than the cosmo intake? Money wise anyway...

I don't like it. Like the cosmo even less.
It is best if the intake air comes from outside. Underhood temps are high and that's bad for performance. Put the filter in a box and run a large pipe to the front grill.

or fogg the airbox instead. same concept as 'putting it in a box.' i dont think the BMP heat shield is useless because it doesnt really block any hot air. to do this you need to have a shield that completely blocks out the rest of the engine bay from the filter like the shields for the 6 cylinder motors from ECIS and Conforti.
