Hello I have a m42 and have been using 20-50 regular oil for my 36k mile engine. Sometimes the valves tick a little. What oil do you other recommend.
It seems the synthetic to be a option but its lilte over $5 a quart and does it work that much better? My mech said to just through in some STP to keep the valves from ticking???
Thanks

I'm running synthetic, and had the same in the old ti (M42). Seemed to run a bit smoother than fossil oil. (But I don't remember the grade, sorry.)

In SD down here i use Chevron Supreme 20w50...supposedly one of the best dino oils out there...Castrol GTX is well rated also...I know Castrol has a synthetic also with 20w50 rating...but changing to synthetic later in the life of the engine can sometimes cause drinking issues etc.
