i try to turn the shift knob to twist it off but it feels like the whole rod is gunna snap, r they clipped in or do they turn?

yeah I stuggled for hours to try and get mine off, its not threaded on there it pops off

Pull straight up if you twist you break it....
Watch out you don't hit yourself in the nose,, It comoes off quite abruptly....

stock knob pulls straight up.

but if your username is any indication of your ride, you may have an aftermarket. that being the case, check around the base of the knob (you may have to remove the boot--do this by squeezing a side in and lifting) for a hex securing screw.
