Does that just drop down behind the bumper? (getting ideas here...)

I think so. It has a heat shield that gets screwed down just above the brake ducts.

Looks like a very clean setup, I'll be looking forward to seeing some pics of it installed in the car.

looks good for at least 30-50 hp! :p

how much was it? pics once installed would be the "shizzle" (my nizzle). be especially interesting to see how well sectioned off it is from the rest of the engine compartment. you're just a modding maniac d00d! i'm just hoping some day to have a driver's side mirror again ;)

Looks alot more complete then all the comso's I see around. I would of wanted that compared to the comso, but then again I have a DASC now so.. :evil_lau:
But I really would like to see pics etc, lemme know how it turns out.

No cold air intake will give you 30-50 hp gain on a ti,i don't know what you've been smoking lately but you should stop. The most you'll get out of it is 5-10hp nothing over.

But this one comes with a sticker, so it's better, Plus everyone knows the carbon fibre creates a vacuum and sucks air in to create boost.

I started the install as soon as I got home. Wanted to use as much daylight as possible. The project was very straight forward, until the filter cover was mounted, and I needed to insert the carbon fiber tube into the filter. The instructions says to let the filter sit comfortably in the space, lay the shield over, then drill the holes. The problem is, when you try to insert the tube in the filter, you discover the headlight adjuster knob is in the way. This really pissed me off!!!!

What I ended up doing was installing the tube in the filter, laying it in place with the shield, and then drilling holes. That way I knew the tube would clear the headlight adjuster, and the holes were correct.

I'm driving into Manhatten tomorrow, will see how nice it runs on the Long Island Expressway. Looks very nice, and considering other options, it's a good deal.

Like I said in my "Top Ten List", I wasn't puttin' no rice in my bimmer. :evil_lau:

Tomorrow morning I will take pics of it installed.

Awsome, looks clean as hell and I bet it sounds real nice. How long was the install time aprox.?

L84THSKY

Instructions says one hour, and I believe that is reasonable. However, they didn't take into account that the 318ti might fit slightly different, and their instructions don't do the 318ti justice.

Take a look at pic "install3". Can you see the white knob from the headlight adjuster? That will definitely hit the tube, if you just install the filter and bracket, and start drilling. You must ensure the tube clears before drilling the holes for the bracket.

I'm off to Manhatten, I will post comments on it's performance, when I return.

wow, that was a way different install than i was expecting! any pics from underneath? i'd like to see how the filter sits behind the bumper/fog light/etc if possible.

be interesting to hear your comments on performance in both the initial run and over time (how often you have to clean the filter, any water issues, etc).

thanks for all your info on this and your other mods L8, very informative and helpful :)

Next time I am at my brother's house, i will put it on the lift and photograph it from underneath.

As fas as horsepower gain, it's probably only psychological, I didn't notice any. It does make the car sound louder though, almost a ricey sound :o

Will give it time and see what happens. The Stromung mellowed in sound over time.

Just installed the Rial 17" rims. Now, all I have left is the Vaders, and I'm done

aaaahh yes, the dreaded aftermarket intake "honk." how much louder is it? now you know why the airbox is listed as the "intake muffler" in the ETK :p

DONE??? DONE??? stop kidding use L8, you won't be DONE after the vaders ... say it isn't so! ;)

btw, the shop i use for work (when i can't/don't want to do it) said the only real way to get power out of our 4 is the forced induction (possibly excluding internal engine reworking that some others are planning ... i think his point was that things like exhaust and intake mods brought negligible increases in power). oh well ...

Looks like you would have real problems with clearance there if eurolights/projectors installed, very little room behind those bulb sockets I notice?
I must admit after years of changing on various cars to "racing/performance" filters and "hearing" the extra power I was getting  I now just feed as much good cold fresh air through the normal regulary changed paper element filter as I can, and listen to the silence instead!
I'm just old I guess......... :ashamed:

Once again I do love the look of those wheels on your ti....very nice.

best regards David

The company that makes the CAI did say that if you have certain lights, it won't fit.

Now I realize why I like the rims so much. They remind me of the BMW roundel pattern.

The company website is below. Since they are in Germany, you might be able to get them cheaper. The model I have is the "Viper E". It was from the 2004 catalogue, not available in 2005 catalogue.

BTW.......and why have you not cleaned that oil leak off the rocker cover yet? LOL

Nice shiney strut brace too, did you honestly feel any different on the road after fitting? I am seriously considering a strut brace, but not sure about the benefits purely for on road commuting. Although I think I would go for a plain finish and paint it body colour or something......see....told you I was getting old! LOL

I guess cleaning the engine isn't my highest priority.

I do think the suspension upgrades have made an improvement, but like I said, I can't be sure how much improvement each upgrade made by themselves.

The brace is under the hood, so who sees it anyway. That is unless you take your car to shows.

will it work with a M42?

now, carbonio do not officially sell the kit for m42, but they could send you a
undrilled version of m44kit and with a different adapter. Then it will fit.
I asked them about it and they were willing to provide a kit for me.
However when I asked them why they didnt produce anykit for m42, they said there were no gain whatsoever so they did not produce the kit. So naturally I turned away but IF you want the kit for looks/sound, email them and speak to them about for m42 and they will comeup with solution.

i installed the carbonio kit a few months ago. the end result i hated the noise and i felt no gain in horsepower or any fuel mileage gains so i removed it.
i also had the extra task of squeezing it behind a ZKW light install kit. i made it fit without the plate but the noise was just awful. i also emailed carbonio for help with the install and i got no help from them or no reply. I dusted off my old intake cleaned it up installed a K&N filter and I was back to a quiet sounding motor.

Unless you are hell-bent in doing this stay far away from a CAI ;}

If anyone wants to buy my kit off of me then let me know. i'd sell it for $125.00 plus shipping etc.

The debate about CAI and mufflers can go on forever. I have the Carbonio CAI and Stromung muffler. I love the combination in sound, and realize the HP gains are zero. People put add-ons for different reasons.

Maybe the reason you didn't like the sound was because you removed the heat shield, that might make it sound different.

My car has a nice low rumble when idling, and a growl when accelerating. Overall, I'm happy, but each person has to make their own decision.
