yes... extremely pointless.
purist like myself will stick to the belief that that engine should only stay in the e30 m3... and there are several exceptions for the 2002ti/M2.

Basically what will happen with an s14 engine is that you'll have to maintain the engine extremely meticulously. Mods are ridiculously expensive at the very least.

Another point is that the engine lacks in torque. Think Honda S2000. Most people ditch their S14 engines and shove in a s50/s52 for torque.

You might be better off with a 6cyl M engine.

pointless???? an S14 is one of the best bmw engines ever made. reving up to 9K rpms, and trowing in some boost.... there is nothing pointless about the power it will make.

price one out... used.. on ebay... they are very expensive.

pointless as in "pointless in a Ti"

boost on an s14? a big no-no

like I said, if you want torque and/or boost, a s50/s52 is much better off

.it does not rev up to 9k in street trim. 7k stock, 8250 if you're lucky enough to built it up correctly and have deep pockets. for the amount of money you put into the s14 to make it breach 300hp, you can make a 6cyl M engine go past 450+ hp

yea, a terrible idea. Just pop in the S52, you will have fun.

also, depending on the year of your ti (OBDI or II), it may not be possible.

most states require that with an OBDII motor, you put in a motor from the same year or newer car. it may even be a federal (EPA) reg, i'm not sure.

It really is not a smart move. It's just not cost effective.

but what if i want a four cylinder???
you could get an S14 to 280 hp without boost
try doing that with an M44

so has it been done???

i dont think its fair to compare a motorsport motor to a m42/m44

to date, I have not seen anyone with an s14.

if you want a powerful fourbanger... you might as well get an s2000 engine for cheap. theres a grip of them lying around.

if you wanna stay with a fourbanger bmw engine... stay m42/m44 and supercharge it. There's even a guy here who boosted his engine and is making massive amounts of hp.

trust me, I know what the s14 is capable of but like previously said... its not cost effective at all. just laying it out there for ya'.

The R/T Supercharger shows incredible gains in boost on the M44/M42 engine. I think a member on here (Raima) is running with it.

If you are dying to stay with a 4banger, this would be the best option for you to do IMO.
