hey everybody I have some questions for you guys and maybe you can help me out I've been looking around but i have not found the answers myself so here we go. I had to take my 97ti in cause of the check engine light, and what the place told me was a bit confusing to me since i know nothing about cars, but here is what I do know is in all the car is about to hit 80,000 miles on it and that the guy says it needs a injection reactor, diverter valve, pump and a pressure hose, i'm not sure how to find these parts or the part numbers cause they seem to be under different names i guess. yet they place says that some how a vavle got stuck open burned up the hose between someplace and secondary and valve and it's making exhaust spit back into it he also told me that it has water in it from a power wash he believes i was hoping maybe somebody can tell me what these parts are or their real name in the bmw world or maybe even explain the problem to me a bit better ohh yeah this is one other thing i know the place wants to charge me almost 930.00 to get it fixed is that high or does it sound right right considering the damage? thanks for the help

Yikes - I don't know about that stuff, but often a check engine light means nothing more than a loose gas cap or a failed oxygen sensor. I'd check those first before dropping that kind of money! And make sure he's a reputable mechanic, one who knows what he's doing with BMWs. Good luck.

was this a bmw dealer or independent (indy) shop? did they provide you with a write up of the problem and what they found along with the estimate of repair costs? before you just go ahead with the fix, you may want to get that and even go to another shop for a second opinion. what are they quoting for the repair cost? it'd be nice to see the exact write up of what they found here. lots of experience here that could be put to good use.

The description for the most part describes the EGR system If I'm
decoding the BMW,eese, I bet if you look at the service manual all
those parts interact and you can't tell for 100% which one is bad
if the recirc pipe is leaking or bad. Get an Itemised quote for the
base work.

You might also want to weigh the labor of replacing 1 of the parts at a
time vs doing it all together while the thing is apart. sometimes its
a calculated risk to avoid future repairs if its a particulary tough
group of bits to change. IE some rigs get a new water pump every
time you change the cam belt because the cam belt has to come
off to change the pump, belt + labor is over a hundred bucks,
water pump is only 35 to 65 more dollars and your doing the
belt at 60K, so if the water pump is good for 80 its a savings...

Good Luck

Thanks the shop I go to is independent (indy) but i do believe it's part of a chain here in new york ....(all tire company for anybody that has seen them) I am going to have a another place look at it today. I going to to get the cost of all of it from this place and i'll let you guys know and hopfully maybe i don't need to replace all those parts at once.

First thing to do,,, Find a good private BMW shop thats clean
and has at least 1 real factory trained BMW guy. they are not going to
quote the cheapest prices but you may actually get your car back
running better.

Here is the diagram for the parts in question. The part names and numbers are below. Before you start replacing parts, you should have somebody with the proper equipment read your codes and find out more specifically what is wrong.
