I need a new catalytic converter for my 1998 318ti. My check engine light is always on because the cat doesn't work. I was wondering if anyone has the cat for this car, or knows a good place to get a replacement. Thanks.

My cat is also messed up; making some really strange noises. I've seen replacments online go for as much as 500 dollars. Check e-bay maybe.

Gentlemen,
Before you buy a replacement, you should check with your local dealership to see if your car falls under the extended warranty for some of the ti catalytic converters. The one on my '98 failed two years ago and I had it replaced by the dealership for free. Apparently some of these were faulty and there is a federal law that requires them to be warrenteed for an extended period. If you are the original owner and your address is up to date with BMWNA, you should have gotten a letter about this. If you didn't, or you're not the original owner I would definitely check with a dealer.

I have a cat from my 95 ti, but am not sure if I want to sell it.
Will it work for a 98 OBD II?
I will think about it.

Thanks for the info. I'll give the dealer a call tomorrow.
I have my used '98 cat available. No rattles.

I don't have the service action code but ask them if defect code 1832918500 means anything to them! BMW covers these defects for ten years, unlimited miles.

J!m, still have that 98' cat for sale? Will it work with a 97? If so, how much for shipping to 92129? Thanks.
