I have spent the last few days reading over the various exhaust articles and have realized that the top ones people seem to be talking about are obviously supersprint then stromung and then a few have mentioned magnaflow and bosal.

I was wondering if i could get a comparison of what people's thoughts are between these exhausts in terms of price, length of life, loudness, performance, fit and ease of install.

Thanks!

I have Bosal, and have heard Supersprint as well. The Bosal sounds just as good, if not better than the SS. But if you want to go ahead and pay double for the SS, feel free to. IMO, Bosal is the best bang for the buck.

You really need to try to listen to them. Some of them are too loud for my taste.

the bosal cat back system that I received did not come with a chrome tip, just a ****ty stock looking tip. I was too excited to put it on, and did not send it back though. Still sounds great.

i noticed that it was for a 93-98 BMW IS. would this work for a Ti?

i doubt it since the back of our car is different. supersprint had a TI specific one (and it fits quite nicely too).

I have a Hartge exhaust and it's made by Supersprint. The sound is perfect. It fits as if it is O.E. Supersprint also supplies Hamann and other German tuners. Longevity also depends on where you live. I store my car in the winter and my exhaust has been on since the car was new('96). If you have harsh winters, pay a little more and buy their stanless system.

Cheers,

I did a search and this is what came up. I didn't really read about it. I just saved it to look at another time. If you want an answer to that question, why not contact the company by email or a 1800 number.

Do you have the one with the Oval tip?

It appears the Bosal for the ti is discontined http://bosalperformance.com/catalog/exhaust_headers_cat.html If the one on your ti is similar to the the 318i cat-back in Tyler's post, the difference in price to the Supersprint is probably because the Supersprint uses 2 mufflers instead of one on the Bosal. The Bosal muffler looks to be a bigger diameter because it is round, the Supersprint mufflers are oval shaped, probably allowing better ground clearance and appearance. The tip on that Bosal is nowhere near as nice looking as the single rectangular tip on the Supersprint, IMO http://www.bmpdesign.com/product-exec/product_id/1560/category_id/100/search_year/1995/search_model/52

I have the SS and I love it. It's perfect for my taste. I don't like the loud ones and the quality is great. It was very easy to install, took the old one out and bolt the SS right on in a few minutes. No modifications at all. I have the one with the oval chrome tip. I really like it.

Found the Bosal for the ti. It uses 2 mufflers but isn't 1/2 the price of the SS as you stated, it's $439.20 on this site http://replacement.car-stuff.com/parts/carstuff/wizard.jsp?year=1995&make=BM&model=318-TI-001&category=H&part=Exhaust+System+Kit The SS is $507.63 at BMP Design.

Did I say I love my Supersprint? Great sound, looks, and quality. Check out my gallery and see how perfectly it fits the M-Tech bumper, doesn't touch anywhere in the opening. http://www.318ti.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=411&cat=500&page=1

The SS looks awesome on your car! I have SS on my 330 and I love the sound and the built quality is top notch. I saw a Hartge with the oval tip for $295 at bmpdesign.com and call them up and ask about the shipping and the guy told me it would by at least $100 to Chicago!!! :o I asked him why so much and he basically told me that it has to be ship in an oversize box.

I will probably end up with SS for my ti also, love the rectangular tip and no mod required is a bonus.

Mickd,

Did you install the SS yourself or do you have to bring it to a muffler shop?

I want a new muffler/cat back but i have an auto,i don't want anything loud, just alittle louder than stock. I don't want my ti to sound like some of those 4banger auto hondas with a loud a$$ retarded exhaust on the car.

Mickd,

The install is simple, I did it myself. Just 2 bolts connecting it to the flange on the catalytic converter, the rubber hanger at the middle, and 2 rubber hangers that push on to the heavy gauge rods coming off the muffler at the rear. Takes about 20 min. to do. The rubber hangers already are on your car with the stock system.

this makes a big assumption that the bolts for the exhaust right after the cat actually come off. i had to use a grinder to cut mine off and then use penetrating oil (liquid wrench) to even get the remaining post out of the flange on the cat side. i didn't own a grinder at that point either ... so it took a little longer to get to the store to buy one with some cutting wheels :) shouldn't take more than a couple hours. i personally bought the exhaust mounting refresh kit from bmw (includes all new bolts/nuts and rubber hangers). not expensive. also recommend a little glycerin for helping to get the rods through the new rubber hangers.

Any one have a picture of the SS dual round tip exhaust on their car? Will this required modifications to the rear valence?

Thanks!
