Converting 318ti to m3 engine?

If I was to convert my 318ti engine to an m3 engine, what all am I going to have to modify? Suspension? Engine mounts? Transmission? Driveshaft? Rear differential? Radiator? Air Intake?

Tony, bro. try the search feature on this forum it will help you out alot. 318ti.org and bimmerforums.com have intensive threads about this swap. Or buy J!M swap manual = $50 (you will learn alot). that way if you have it done by the shop they dont rip you off.

For the simpliest swap which is the OBD1 to OBD1.
1. m3 engine with harness and DME
2. m3 HFM and (Cosmo racing) cheapest alternative.
3. M3 A/C lines
4. Power steering lines. stock 318ti are short
5. Upper radiator hose
6. 80c thermostat with stock 318ti radiator (hot weather places require M3 radiator, e.g CA, AZ, FL, TX.) Im in oregon 2 months sun
7. 6 cyl instrument cluster from E36 (doesnt matter which 6cyl model as long as E36)
8. you might need to change the fuel hose from fuel filter to Throttle body but I think my orig. was just worn so we had to replace it
9. 318ti Tranny with stock shaft to m3 engine.
10. I retained my 318ti flywheel/clutch combo because it had little wear. If yours is slipping or very worn. Upgrade to fidanza LTW with 96+m3 clutch. Should be around $600-$700 for the complete set
11. m3 headers to 318ti exhaust. If you have stock 318ti exhaust you are required to upgrade to free-flowing. Stock 318ti will create to much back pressure. I'd say go custom maybe 2.5"-3" from cat back.
12. if you have cruise control 318ti stock is too short.
13. I cant think of anything else that was replaced.

I forgot you have an OBD2 car. Go pm SportAuto he is currently working on his OBD2 swap. He should be done by now. Its pretty much the same just need to modify the shift linkage, I believe. In addition your OBD2 EWS need to syncto your car. Have the dealer do it or someone with GT1 diagnostic tool or similar.
