View Full Version : Cat Removal and Question??
So I have this rattling noise coming from inside the Cat itself which I thought was the heat shield for the longest time until I actually went under yesterday. A friend of mine that is a mechanic said that I could do and easy fix, which would be remove the cat with a set of wrenches and when it is removed take a long screw drivers and basically hollow out all the crap inside it. He said when all that **** is gone then I will have more power, the car will be louder, and no rattles.. what do you guys think?? Also how hard is it to remove the cat?? Is there a writeup anywhere?? I want to try this today but just want to confirm this info before I dive into it. Thanks for any/all input:)

I think removing the cat on a OBD-II or 96 and on for the 318ti will caus problems because there is an additional sensor after the cat. I am not positive on this but it is what I have read.
Yeah thank you, I called a shop around here and made an appointment for them to check the cat and to see if it would be possible to build a custom high flow one this coming Wensday.

i put in a magnaflow cat it is not bad but it makes like a slight beehive noise kinda like all the hondas but not as nearly as bad and i now have a check engine light but i can live with that

Exactly what he said. I removed the cat off of my 95 ti and put in the Supersprint Racing Resonator, the only problem was that I had to cut the pipe because the cat was connected to the header.

My cat just recently began to show some signs of a cat that was begining to clog. Since there are no emission tests in Indiana I went to the muffler shop and had it removed. Now I am running with no catalytic converter and a flowmaster muffler. The sound is nice it added more growl to the exhaust sound. I could also tell a difference in performance. Car seemed to rev more smoothly and felt more powerful especially high in the rpm band.
If you don't have emissions testing I reccomend this mod. It was only 50 bucks for me.
Edit: OBD-I cars only because there is no sensor after the catalytic converter.

i cut my cat out because I had a faulty catylitic converter, and was not up to paying the super high price for a new one. Hooray cat delete.

woop woop. So it took my car out tonight. We are shooting a short little video. It is definately faster. For example it started raining and I have tires with good tread. I was able to spin the tires in second gear from 30 to 55. It is rather entertaining.
