Thats the best way to do the swap.
What part of the car was damaged?
How much time do you think you'll spend on the labor?
If you don't mind how much green did you part with for the M3? Oh and Mileage?

OK SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST RETARDED AND MORONS...PEOPLE SUCK....OK HERE WHAT YOU GUYS THINK,,,
the car i went to look at last night..........
for sale is my totaled M3. It was involved in a hard accident (T-boned from the passenger side) and the airbag caused an interior fire so there is nothing left of the interior. What IS left however is the TCKline trackline suspension (3 lowered springs + 3 Koni single adjustables (one spring and shock pair was likely destroyed in the accident)), aftermarket swaybars, bunches of good body panels (rear of the car is mint), rear spoiler, Conforti CAI, stock exhaust, E36 M3 stock differential, drivline/drivetrain, M3 transmission, 3 good M3 10 spoke wheels, and the cherry of it all, a sweet E36 M3 motor (the plastic intake manifold was cracked in the accident, but the that is cheap to replace). ......END
THE ENGINGE WAS COCKED RIGHT AND THE TRANNY WAS GOING WHAT EVER WAY.....THIS GUYS WAS SMOKING SOME GOOD CRACK....THERE WAS NOTHING MINT ON IT....THE MOTHER***** ***** ***** ****..SO PISSED
OK SO NO SWAP FOR NOW SITLL LOOKING
PS EVERYTHING WAS GONE REAREND PROBALLY HAS THE DRIVESHAFT PUNCHED THREW IT....DIDNT EVEN LOOK

i talk to the guy about his crashed 95 m3. He said "the engine and tranny was fine" so i go to pick it up lastnite. The thing was a mess. the engine was pointed to the driverside headlamp..a mess........

ooh, that sucks, I don't know how some people think sometimes. dont they understand that people don't always have time to be driving all the way somewhere to F*$% around lol... sorry to hear that, good luck in your search for a doner, I'm out in LA in the exact situation you are, looking for a 1996 doner.

you gotta be careful when a car is hit too hard, cause the engine might be damaged on the inside from the impact too

I totally agree, preferably I probably want to find one that has been totaled from the rear end, or further back in the car, away from the engine compartment.

There's a lot of things you'll need to do that most people overlook.
I found a wrecked 95 M3 when I did my swap, it was rolled, but the only damage to the motor was a cracked valve cover.
Buy new mounts for the struts, motor and tranny if your donor parts are coming from a wrecked car.
You'll eventually need a differential, mine was toasted after 8000 miles of moderate abuse. The differential form the M3 will not fit in your ti, you'll need an Mcoupe, MRoadster, or a 6 cyl E30 LSD. I had a MRoadster 3.23 LSD swapped in with 6 cyl axel half shafts.
Make sure you swap the brakes too, the M3 brakes work really well in the ti, due to the reduced weight.
Some cars will require you to use the EWS2 keys and ignition if they are coded to the DME. (I didn't have this issue since I swapped an OBD1 EWS1 3.0L M3 motor into my 97' OBD2 318ti) In my case, we just needed to find the correct wire to fire up the fuel system and ground it.
You'll need to have a custom exhaust made.
There were a few other things but I can't think of them now.
I was going to sell my wrecked 330ti, but I just found another ti, and I'm going to pick it up on Saturday morning. Looks like my drivetrain is going into the new Black 98' in a few weeks.
