OK folks, I am going mad here trying to make sense of an issue I have got myself into!!!

I have a 318i E30 BMW (not ti - sorry!!!), I have picked up (very cheap too) a BMW e34 LSD (3.64:1 ratio) to drop into my e30 shell. Now, the dilemma I have is: Will it fit my bimmer?

I have been told that this diff is the same unit as the 6 cylinder diffs fitted in e30's?

This should be a picture of the diff I am trying to use. If anyone knows anything about this diff then please do not hesitate to pm me or post on this board.

Any advice will be greatly accepted....

I am going to be using (I hope!!!) the 318i rear diff mounting plate from my own and then mount this unit as a bolt on replacement. If this can be done?

If not, use the internals if that is at all possible?

Thanks in advance for absolutely any advice. :?

all you have to do is get an E30 cover. (the rear part) That's what I did. I actually have an E34 lsd. in my ti.

thanks mate. I was hoping that would be the case but I was a little unsure.

Is the 3.64 ratio not too low? Meaning I'll be using my 318 for auto testing here in the UK and will need some good low end power/grunt.

Thanks
Andy

I have tried to fit the LSD unit to no avail. It does not fit!!! The drive flanged on the output of the diff are about 5mm or more bigger than standard 318i flanges.

Anyone know if BMW made larger output splines with "smaller" flanges for the E30/E34? If not, is it possible to split the CV joints and have 535i (e34) inner (inc flanges) CV joint with the 318i (E30) drive shaft and outer CV joint?

Any solutions much appreciated...

take your output flanges and put it in the e34 diff.

I just sold a 318i 3.64 LSD. I was planning on putting in in my Ti, but it wouldn't work. Your car would have used this diff perfectly. The splined end diameter is smaller on the 318i flanges than the 318Ti. I think it was 38mm on yours, and 44 mm on the Ti flanges.

Here is the diff I just sold.
