I need new tires for my ti. Right now I have Cheng Shin tires (they were on the car when I bought it). The size is 205/60/15. I want something more performance oriented I guess.. I don't care too much about road noise or ride comfort as long as it isn't extreme. I was considering Yokohama es100's but I've heard that the road noise is absolutely awful. Of course I want something safe as well, with good wet and dry traction. My dad is willing to pay up to $60 per tire, and I am willing to pay an additional $30-40 in order to get a good performance tire. So, nothing more than approximately $100 per tire. Any reccomendations?

I just bought Dunlop FM901's for my ti. They are High performance tires and cost me about $90 a tire. It might be cheaper for you cause I have 17's so 15's should be a little less. Check tirerack.com or tires direct.

The ES100s are loud but I got used to it pretty quickly.

They hold quite nice, but remember they are summer only (you didnt mention if you needed all season).

florida is world-renowned for its annual snowfall.

is treadwear a concern? also remember that you'll pay about $40-50 to have the new shoes mounted.

IIRC, maurolin lives in south fl, and works for a tire distributor. i'd hit him up on the PM.

Yeah, the tread wear on the Dunlops that I have are supposed to be 200, but I doubt that's right.

Thank you all for the suggestions. Tread wear isn't a huge issue, but I don't want something that will wear out very quickly. Just something with an average tread life I guess.

Check out the tire forum on www.bimmerforums.com (http://www.bimmerforums.com). The sponsor is Jim at Tirerack and he's happy to talk to you. That said, I think people have found the Sumitomo HTZ's pretty good too. The tirerack.com site has tons of reviews for every tire too.

Those might have been the tires I was considering. I bought a very nice set of used Dunlop Sport 8000 235/45/17 on Ebay.

Seems a 235/40/17 is hard to find in a Dunlop tire. What size and profile are your tires?

Mine are 205/60/15. My dad used to have those Dunlops and said that they good tires.

I just bought a set of Yokohama AVID H4s', and have been pleased so far. Good traction and real quiet.

We just bought a 97 318ti and put BFG Traction T/A's on it (205/60R15 stock rims) and they are GREAT... good grip, very comfortable and quiet. a bit pricey though...

Goodyear Eagle F1's all round. Really good grip, not much road noise and look sweet.
They've won loads of awards from vehicle magazines over here.

My old man like his Yokohama tyres which he keeps putting on his Galant VR4.
