I think they are harder to find here in the states maybe?

They are... I think BMW didn't think it was worth shipping many into the States during the final production year of the TI.... When I bought my '98 TI in the spring of '98, the dealer actually thought it was the last year available ... then I saw some '99's and got pissed off. M-steering wheel and side airbags... grrr. :)

When I was still looking for a Ti, I was considering a 1999 that was for sale. The car was in excellent shape, and had 67K miles. My concerns were the inflated price the BMW dealership wanted, and the fact that a male college student owned it.
In the end, I opted for the 1998 with 31K miles and was female owned. The reality is that now I am spending alot of money adding the extras that the 1999 had, and my 1998 didn't.

^Indeed. You can chalk me up as another '99 owner though. It's just about to crack 80k miles too.

I also have a 1999 318ti with 49K miles, in excellent condition, not a scuff or scratch on the original silver paint, with recently installed DASC (one of the last three or so put together).

I have a 99 ti with 123k on it. Has been a great car. Have made some decent trips on it including Virgina Beach, Va to Oak Harbo, Wa (near Seattle).
