I told everyone that I sold my Scirocco a few months back. That deal fell through because of issues with my title. Anyway, I put it up back on Ebay, and a local guy came by to look at it prior to the auction closing. He offered me $750.00 for the car, and I took his money.
This guy was a VW nut, still in college, he knew allot of GTI's and Sciroccos. When I abandoned the car last year, I thought I had a bad water pump. I told him that was the problem, and he assumed it was when he brought it home. I also told him that it has a hesitation problem when warmed up, but I, and a couple of mechanics, couldn't figure out the problem.
Well, he calls me and asks me when I had last replaced my spark plug wires. I had put in Nology high performance wires years ago, but never really new how long they last. He says he wanted to remove all the after market stuff under the hood to try to find the problem. He replaces the wires, and the hesitation problem is GONE!
Son of a bitch  It was the stupid wires. Then to add insult to injury, he was all ready to swap water pumps, and when he realized it was a hose problem, not the water pump.
So now he has a perfectly running Scirocco, and total cost of repair was under $200.00.
I guess I can't complain, since I moved on to my Bimmer, before the car started bleeding me dry.
The point is, sometimes after market modifications can hurt you more than help. Sure the cables were not new, but if I was using stock cables, I would have switched them out sooner, and solved the problem.
It's kinda like using synthetic oil verse standard oil. The synthetic oil may be good for some percentage of increased mileage, but it has it's limits too. In other words, changing the oil regularly is more important than the type of oil you use.
I'm glad he loves the car, it went to a good home.
