Does a BMW 6-Speed Transmission exist that will fit my 1996 318ti??? If so, what all will I need to convert myself over from an auto to the 6-speed. (ex. what driveshafts will fit/will my rear end be geared too low with the stock auto diff?)

thanks

I can sell you a six speed that will bolt right in.

You may be able to use your existing DS since you had an automatic. I suspect you will. The 6 speed is very close in length to the automatic.

You will need to get the clutch pedal and its associated hardware of course.

I have several six speeds available from europe. $2200 plus shipping from Illinois.

What about the flywheel, will it accept a clutch, pressure plate and throw-out berring and arm. Also, is the firewall of the car set up for the clutch master cylinder, what about under dash, is there a place to mount the clutch pedal? I may be getting into an auto Ti and I'd like to convert it to a manual trans. What are all the parts that we're talking about for the conversion and what is a ball park figure for the parts and trans for the conversion? Talk to ya'll later.

did you want to do the 5-speed (which was stock) or a 6-speed? DustenT did an auto to manual conversion. i forget if he did a write-up on it or not, i'd check the appropriate forum area. if not, send him a PM to see what all he needed and what it took.

I would love to do a 6 speed too. 2200bucks seems a bit steep though.

From what I've read here it's easier to put the 6spd in place of the auto trans because of the similarity of the length. The main reason I'm even thinking about this is because most of the cars that I'm finding for sale are auto trans. I guess I could just chip the auto trans. and be done with it but a manual trans would be nice. That's why I'm exploring this option. I also remember that the piolt berring is in the gland nut that holds the flywheel to the crank so the crank should be a non-issue. Anyway, thanks for the replys.
