Hello...

I'm thinking of buying a Magnex cat-back system for the ti.
Here's a pic:
http://roadrunnermotorsport.co.uk/ebay/images/xsbmo7.JPG

I think it looks very nice and it's cheaper than supersprint or remus and it's 100% stainless steel.
The think is I don't know these exhaust, so I don't know what to expect regarding noise and performance. I already have my ti without CAT.
Does anyone here have this exhaust or heard it/seen it?

Please give me your opinions ASP.

Thank you!

regards!

Ive got one too. Although i havnt tried any other exhausts, im happy with my decision and its not too loud like boy racer motors! sounds wicked!

Can you please post a picture of the rear of your TI's, so I can see how the Magnex fits the car?
I would really apreciate it!

Thanks!

does anyone know where I could buy this exhaust in the United States? Do they have any US dealers?

Thanks,

Dan

i'm still thinking about getting a Magnex for myTi. i had one on my Saxo VTS and it really did the trick! a really nice sound!

And did you notice performance gains on your saxo?

davep-uk
12-15-2005, 09:22 PM
it was coupled with a K&N induction kit. and there were definately gains but not sure whether it was because of the exhaust or the induction kit.

you should gain a couple of HP with any exhaust, though you wont notice any significant surge in power.

I emailed magnex yesterday asking how much it weighs & what performance gains to expect as I'm also looking at buying a cat-back pipe.

Haven't heard back from them yet thou.

magnex never responded to my enquiry which is a shame but I thought WTF & went and brought one anyway. It sounds the buisness without being too loud & weighs considerably less than the stock system (probably around two thirds the weight).

can you by chance weigh that lovely stock setup and post the result? there was another thread where we were trying to figure out the weight of different exhaust systems. too bad you didn't weight the magnex before installing :(

we can then put all that info in a knowledge base article :)

looks good, btw!

Thanks!
Just a question? Doesn't the muffler tip stay a little too low?

I dont have any scales but I'll try to get hold of some when I get some time.

The magnex does hang a little low - about an inch lower than stock + the tailpipe sticks out a bit farther than the original. I reckon I'll tweak the hangers to lift it up a bit the next time I've got the back jacked up.

there definately is a noticable performance gain. I'm not totally sold on the looks though, do you think it looks a bit ricey?

i don't think it looks ricey. is there any way to get it to sit up a bit higher? someone posted a trick on how to get the stromung (it appears made for the non-m-tech rear bumper) to sit up higher. i think it was in L8s thread "M-tech Bumper installed" or something like that.

halek
12-23-2005, 05:33 PM
your right, it does need tweaking to get it to fit better.I found L8's post on flattening the pipe where it touches the cross-member & using mini s hangers.I did notice rub marks on the pipe when I pulled it off to re-seal it yesterday. Another job on the 'to do' list :)

whats the score with the Nurburghring sticker on your rear end?

halek, I think the exhaust is very nice! It looks very sporty and not ricey at all! I think it just needs the said tweeking to be perfect! Once again, thank you for the pictures! Really helpfull! Just another request... Any chance of a video to hear the sound of the magnex? :)

halek,

whats the score with the Nurburghring sticker on your rear end?

me old man went down there with his mates & rode it this summer on his blackbird (CBR1100), brought me back the sticker. I'd love to do it myself, you can just turn up, bung em some euro's & do a lap in whatever you turn up in.

yeah ive seen it on the tv. its about 20 euros a lap, and would take about 16 mins in a Stock TI.

got me some scales & pulled the magnex off to give it a tweak & make it fit a little better so I weighed em both (cat back only)

stock = 35.6 lb or 18.3 kg

magnex = 20.6 lb or 9.4 kg

that stock pipe sure is a heavy mofo

Excellent weight on the magnex! Half of stock!

Halek, have you tried raising the muffler? Does it have clerance to be raised? Like cutting a section of the hangers and welding them a bit shorter?

Halek, have you tried raising the muffler? Does it have clerance to be raised? Like cutting a section of the hangers and welding them a bit shorter?

I've got it as high as it will physically go now thanks to one of L8's old posts that cali pointed me toward (thx guys).

The pipe rubs the rear cross member when you lift the rear box higher. The stock pipe is flattened on this section to give it clearance,so I marked the pipe up while fitted to the car, removed it & slightly flattened it using blocks of wood & a club hammer to resemble the stock pipe. I also noticed that one of the rear anti-roll bar fixing bolts was about 3/8" longer than necessary & was fouling the rear edge of the magnex silencer, so I took about a 1/4" off the end of that while in situ with a dremel. I also put a 1/4" deep crease along the top rear edge of the silencer to give more clearance from the anti-roll bar. I know it sounds a bit savage whacking a new exhaust about with a club hammer but if your careful & use suitably sized pieces of wood between the pipe & hammer blows you can make it look like it was made that way.

Now your clearance issues are solved all you need are some shorter exhaust hanger rubbers. BMW Mini cooper S rubbers work perfectly - see pic, black is the standard hanger & red are the mini ones (part# 18 20 7 535 665)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/smeeps/hanger.jpg

here's the result, ideally I'd like it another ½" higher but it wont go any more without fouling the anti-roll bar. Still, I can live with it like this

actually, that first calculation is off :) which one did you weigh it in, pounds or kilograms?

EDIT: it certainly looks better after your adjustments :) good work d00d.

should be 35.6 lb or 16.15 kg for the stock pipe

Are you happy sound-wise?

Are you happy sound-wise?

It sounds excellent, if anything a little on the loud side for my taste (I am a bit of a perfectionist) but in no way is it intrusive. Stomos reacons they mellow out within a few hundred miles & mine has only done around 50-60 miles so I expect it to be near on perfect once its run in.

davep-uk, is yours loud?
Can you post a video? Or maybe some pictures?

I just can't make my mind between the magnex and the supersprint.
The magnex is stainless steel, lighter and probably louder and cheaper.
The supersprint has better fitting on the Mtec bumper because of the square tip.

davep-uk
04-21-2006, 01:11 PM
I'LL try and post some pics in the next few days. the magnex does not fit straighyt on my car as i do not have the Mtech rear bumper. so it sits to one side. it is not too loud, just a nice grumble at hard accelaration. but i dont think mine was sealed properly when it was fitted as it sounds a bit "blowy". i need to get it up on ramps to have a proper look.

Had mine on now for just on 2 months.... loving it! Also had a max flow airfilter/Induction kit fitted at same time so difficult to say what has made the performance difference, but there certainly is an improvement. Not massive, but the car feels so much more free and easy to drive. Gets up and goes that much easier... aslo sounds so so so nice! Loving it.

Heres a few pics of the fitting, my old exhaust was "slightly" knackered to say the least! Its not 100% straight, and I am gonna be trying to fix that just cos its annoying me!

jeez! how long did it take them? took the one i use for EVERYTHING i can't be assed took 45 mins and did a fantastic job. they cleaned the car underside too before refitting where the exhaust sits.

mine sounds quite loud now too. When first fitted it sounds REAL quiet but as it soots up it gets louder.

it's not about time, its about precision. lazy gits will just slap it in. a descent guy will do it by the book and fit in properly (NO MORE than 1HR).
