Quick question for you guys, if I did a 6cyl swap on my ti, will I still be able to use my automatic tranny? the reason I'm asking this is because my brother in law just got a job @ BMW/Mazda of Danvers MA, and he told he could basically get me any engine. Hell, he told he could get me an E46 M3 engine with 0 Miles for $1850 (dealership cost). So I know that I dont want to do a swap to a manual tranny......So how compatible are our trannys, will it just bolt right up? Do I need to get a 6cyl auto tranny? Any input would really be helpful.

Thanks

I think you could but you'll probally blow it real quick. Better off getting a tranny that will hold the extra hp.

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

Juni i'll be around this weekend if you want to meet up in Waltham. I'll be there till sunday,i'll give you a buzz when i'm free.

wow, 1850 bucks? that's nuts... what does he get, like a 90% discount?

lol

and yeah, you'd blow the tranny as soon as you hit the gas half throttle.

uhh ... you do NOT want a manual trans? why????

i wonder if the 6-speed manual from the e46 m3 would fit. i imagine the SMG would be too many electronic doo hickeys to move over to the poor ole aging ti.

the e46 engines will not work to my knowledge. You should use that discount on e36 M3 components or Dinan upgrades if they are a Dinan dealer.

The SMGII is just a normal 6 speed with hydrolic mechanisms to shift gears faster than any person. An SMG can be retrofitted any standard M3 gearbox.

That's what it costs the dealership, ofcourse for the normal consumer it would then be much higher . My concerns also lye in the actual swapping of the motor......will it drop right in?, will it be a wiring mess?, would I need a custom driveshaft? I even gave it some thought to buy the damn thing and sell it for its regular retail price and do and E36 M3 swap with the huge profit I just made. I had previously had plans to drop an M52TU motor in my ti, (E46 328 donor car). I still have the engine but my mechanic talked me out of it, because the wiring alone wouldnt be worth the touble.

In all reality, I need some guidence as to how hard this swap will truly be. Has anybody done and or even done research on swapping to an E46 motor. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Ohh, and the reason for not wanting a manual.......I get to happy with the shifting and start getting in trouble alot faster (pun intended) with the manual. On my liscense I am a step 28, in MA, that's about 2 moving violations away from not having a liscense indefitnetly. I made poor desicions when I was a younger driver......partly because my first car was an Eclipse GS-T. That car put the devil in me
