View Full Version : Driving a ti can make you lose your liscince

On friday October 28 Officer Feo pulled me over for going 64 in a 35. Heres the funney part, other then "feo' being the spanish word for ugly, I had graduated driver's ed the day before and had only had my liscince for seven hours and my car for less then five before getting pulled over. Moral of the story is that you should always put a radar detector in your car before you drive. Before I bought the car I thought that the ti was slow because of the four cylinder, I was very wrong.

Isn't the moral of the story: "Don't speed"?

yeah, welcome to the club. never had any speeding tickets before my ti. then i got something like ... three. btw, i still don't use a radar detector and won't bother. i use other people going faster than me as radar detectors :) the times i've gotten tickets, i didn't follow my own rule :(

true that...always watch people in front of you and look for brake lights and such....and if people are going faster than you, chances are a cop wont pick you out of a group

byut if you are going 65 in a 35....well that can screw you over :(

No speeding violations for me just an unregistered motor vehicle ticket from a couple yrs ago.

Speaking of going 64 in a 35, I was caught in a contruction zone (35MPH) and I was doing about 55, then I see this cop car in my rearview and I shift down, not brake cause I didn't want him to see that I was going really fast and then he pulls me over. Well in the end I didn't get a ticket but a warning. He was a cool guy

Bummer about the tickets. I have gotten more tickets in my car...the most recent being "careless operation." In other words, the cop knew I was speeding, but didn't get to clock me.

I get my fast driving fun in on the interstate of back roads late at night... After doing 100 or so from time to time like that, I don't feel the urge to do 20 over in school zone or whatever...

No speeding tickets in either my Ti or my old car, the MX6. Only ticket I have gotten was "Wreckless Operation," and I only got that because it's mandatory when you rear-end somebody (in the MX6).

The day I got my license, I literally had just gotten home when I told my parents I needed to go to the library. I took my dad's 911, of course, and a few miles from my my house, on the main drag in the suburb I lived in , I got pulled over. I know I wasn't speeding cuz I saw the cop on the side of the road giving someone else ticket. Anyway, shortly after seeing him, he pulls me over and I hand him a print out of my "license" from the DMV I had gotten less than an hour ago. He said it sounded like I was going fast. Whatever. He let me go, but I was embarrased because 1) I had to give him this piece of paper 2) I was hoping no one would recognize me or the car. Anyway, looking back, it's funny.

Good news! Five days after I got the ticket I got a call from the police station saying that the ticket was not valid because a mistake was made on it and it is now gone! I guess driving a ti is good luck!

911s tend to be loud, i guess that's why it "sounded" like you were going fast. nice that the cops use "sound" to determine speed. you could have been revving it out in first gear!

It's a bummer, but that's how it is. But, the general rule is if you're driving by a cop, drive like a saint. It's not real hard to behave yourself for a mile.

I speed pretty egregiously, but never in school zones nor residential.

SDK; I hope you take the mistake on the ticket as a blessing, and learn from it. Would have been nice if my ticket ended up that way ($420).

Do the math

BMW+FOUR CYLINDER ENGINE+GERMAN ENGINEERS+PLUS+TI= SPEED -200 OR SO FOR A SPEEDING TICKET SO WHATS THAT GIVE US = A lotta trouble and a whole bunch fun.

aceyx: dont worry im taking it as a blessing alright! Neither me or anyone I know has heard of someone getting off like I did. If the ticket would have stayed I would have lost my liscence for a year or longer ( Iowa sucks). Ive been doing my best to drive clean since. Another thing that helped me drive clean was that for atleast two weeks after I got off I saw at least one cop every day. I dont know if I just didnt notice them before or if God was trying to tell me something.

LN318Ti: Whenever someone gives me crap about the ticket I say exactly what you said with the addition of + hot girl in the passenger seat. =)

everyone else is posting good stories, so here's mine... but first a brief history of me and cars... been driving 10 years, had 8 different bmws, no speeding tickets ever, although I deserve them more than anyone I know ;-)

ok, here goes with the story...

the only ticket I've ever received is for being rear ended... This isn't a typo, I got hit in the back bumper by someone who was road raging and I got a reckless driving ticket for it! Stupid backwoods Fletcher NC chief of police (has since lost his job) must have known the guy who hit me or something. I was driving my old beater 528e one day when it was snowing and this guy got impatient at a traffic light and started to try to pass me in the intersection. Once thru the intersection he was continually honking at me and flashing his lights while riding about 6' off of my bumper. There was a right lane that was ending, so I thought I'd let him pass me since I didn't want to mess with a crazy guy on slick roads. As I was getting into the right lane he rammed me. The worst part of this, I tried to fight it in court, but the officer never would show up on the court dates. The magistrate just kept continuing the case. After the 4th continuance, the court date was set for a week that I was out of town, and since I couldn't show up on that date they wouldn't reschedule it, forcing me to plead guilty to reckless driving for being rear ended. I usually like living in a small town, but the biggest downside for me has to be the corrupt law enforcement. Because of this I had the pleasure of attending a 4 hour defensive driving class and paying a $185 fine, also had to eat the damages to my car since I didn't have full coverage on it. The positive side of this is that I creamed the fromt end of other guy's car with my homemade trailer hitch ;-)

Now thats a great story! That sucks about your car/ fine/ court trouble though.

doing 125 in a 65, and now i have a restricted liscense  , but i can still drive so it's all good

my friend got pulled over doing 177 in a 45 in a ferrarri spyder and got let off.. talk about lucky.. not even a ticket

SDKmann

No, he wasnt lucky, the cop just liked ferraris. If the guy would have been speeding in a old honda ,(I know a old honda couldnt go 177 but you know what I mean), he would have been arrested. The cop who pulled me over for going 64 in a 35 said he would have arreseted me but didnt because I was 16.
That means that he was going to let me go because I drove a bimmer.

a few years ago I pulled a u turn in my e32 doing a burnout the whole way, went about 200 feet down the street sideways without realizing a cop was sitting in a parking lot nearby. Got off with being yelled at for 10 minutes and a warning. Gotta say I drove straight home and didn't go more than 5 under the speed limit that night!

I was showing off to a friend who had a galant vr4 with custom turbos @ 15 psi of boost. He was impressed, didn't think bmws were sporty enough to push the back end out, especially one as big as my e32.

I speed a lot... especially on back country roads in lancaster county (central PA). Only speeding ticket I ever got was for going 12 over. Coppers had a speed trap set up and pulled over 6 cars or so. We were all driving the same speed on a 4 lane road through town... kinda pissed me off, but can't complain since my luck has been pretty good so far.

no tickets in the BMW, but i got pulled over in my old 94 saturn. but i think 19 over warrants the 'warning' but, then again, it's not what ya know, it's who you know..turns out the officer was a family friend who lived in the neighboorhood! lol...i guess it kinda works out occasionally

Lets see, one time I was in a parking lot and some guy was walking by and I always like to show off so I floored it for a sec, then he just stops and stares at me, then a few seconds later I park and a cop car pulls right behind me with his lights on and guess what, it was the guy I floored it next to but, he just yelled at me about how dangerous it was to do that and gave me a warning. Another time I did 50 in a 35 mph construction zone and got pulled over for that but got away with a warning. And the next time I got pulled over I was doing 60 in a 45 with my mom's Mercedes Benz and get this, me thinking I can get away in her car I floor it away onto an upcoming street and before you know it he called for backup and ended up having 3 cop cars chasing me. Yes, I pulled over but, he let me off with a warning and don't ask how that happened but it just did. Three warning at 16 and damn am I lucky.

I was heading up to a basketball game in ill. last weekend and was amazed at how many cops there were. On one strech of highway they were shooting people from helicopters and then radioing their plates to the cops waiting on the ground. In another spot they were shooting speeders off a bridge that went over the highway. I found out later that in addition to this they now have a van with a speeding camera in it in every construction zone in ill.. I think all this is just wrong, especially the private companies who do it.

I just got my Ti like a week ago, so i dont
have any tickets yet, but the car i had
before this was a 97 Z3 with a DASC,
I got pulled over on a very regular basis.
95 in a 55, 67 in a 25, 126 in a 65.
The last one resulted in a license
suspension which sucks, but it was
in Deleware and I only drive through there
about 4 times a month.
That Z3 was a cop magnet.

I think all this is just wrong, especially the private companies who do it.

On the one hand I understand the need for law enforcement and what not, but the thing that gets under my skin is that the money from speeding tickets is a huge source of income. When I was at university (Millersville University in Lancaster), a couple of people were making proposals for ways to raise money for some local construction project. One of the proposals was that they increase speeding fines and give more speeding tickets and use the extra income to fund the project... I was pretty surprised.

For the record, I'm not anti-government or anti-authority. I have family and friends who are cops and I have a lot of respect for that profession. I just think its wrong that at the end of the day the motivation behind speed enforcement seems to be $$ more than anything else.

Sorry if this is kind of a ninja post... :/

I went to UNCA, they had a policy of giving parking tickets as an income source. The only tickets I got were stupid and I got them reversed, the first was because I had my parking decal taped in the window of my truck. I just had my windshield replaced, so I peeled the permit decal off the old glass and it wasn't sticky anymore, so I used tape. The ticket read "improper decal display" so I took the truck to campus police before 8 AM the next morning to show them the decal and while I was parked there I got a ticket for improper parking, even though they're not supposed to start enforcing parking zones until after 8 AM. The head of campus rent-a-cops tore up the tickets and had words with the ticket writers (students)

some officers are great and have public safety in mind. Others are power hungry and corrupt. Unfortunatley the ones in the town where I live are the latter, but I do know that good ones exist. Most rent-a-cops are pretty much useless.
