Power steering

Where is the power steering resevoir? I have a 97. It shows me a picture in the users manual but not the location. Cant find it.. Can any one help?

if you look through the gap between the airbox and the engine from above, you will see a black cylinderical reservoir with a star-shape cap ontop of it. It's the reservoir. If you look from under the car, it's the black cylinder box with 2 hoses running out of it, one big and one small. the small one is connnected to the pipe in the front of the car, the big one runs to the steering pump, which is located near the sterring rod. Thanks. Now the next question how do i get to it? I want ot see if my fluid is low.... i have a feelin it is.. any help would be greatly appreciated.

the best way is to remove your air-filter housing. you will have easy access to it and the hoses.

You can reach it easily from underneath the car. Jack up the car (and remember to support it with jack stands). That area is more than enough room for you to work on your reservoir. If you don't have jack and jack stand...well, that's another story. :)

I've got a PS leak. Haven't been under the car yet, but judging from the appearance of the intake hose, it looks like the hose is leaking at the reservoir. Tomorrow (Sat.) I'm going to be draining the PS system, replacing the hose and clamps, as well as all of the gaskets on the other hoses, and re-filling. I'll try to remember to take pictures.


As long as we're on the subject, does anyone know the fill capacity of the system? I'm thinking that two quarts of Mobil One Dexron III (technically Mobile Multi-Purpose ATF) will do the trick. Yes? Anyone have a better PS fluid suggestion?

With the time change last week it leaves me 1 day a week to work on my car,it sucks getting out of work at 5 and it's dark.

ATF works fine. Just buy one quart. It takes only half of that or so to fill up the reservoir.
