Yeah I know now. But they had to stretch the car like a limo to make it fit. Stock 3 series cant fit a V12.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the 12 cylinder is essentially two sixes side by side. The BMW six is like the old chrysler slant six, in that it is 1/2 of a v-12. The length of the engine is the same as the six. It will fit in a ti or any other 3 series (save for the Z series, where it may need intake mods to clear the front of the hood)

Who cares? It's too much anyway... If someone wanted to pay me to do it for them, I'd be more than happy to. In fact, I'd even install twin turbos too just for fun. I suppose you could squeeze a maximum output in the neighborhood of 750HP if it was done right...

Any takers? (please note, and read my signature below...)

Where exactly do you get your (mis)information?

FYI, limousines are stretched at the b-pillar.

I know where limos are streched but I was using it as an example. I got my correct info from BMW. Im sure you all know much more about BMWs cars then them.

some inner fender modification might be needed...but the car was not stretched. And how is BMW giving you info on an independant companies swap??

i wonder what the insurance would be like on a Ti with V12 conversion over here in the UK?

For that kind of money, I'd spend just a little more and get a really nice 850. Then you get your V12, and you look like a damn badass to boot. :)

I'd totally buy an 850 if I wasn't so sure the thing would break down on me once a week.

By BMW do you mean the dealer? They have told me plenty of incorrect things before.

I know its not stretched either but what I meant was that they would have to modify it some way to make it fit. And since the independent company uses a BMW car and a BMW engine I think they would know if they would work. When developing cars Im sure they look at many possibilities to change the car including what engines will work and witch ones wont. I forgot where I first heard that the 3 series could hold a up to a V10, but I asked my friend who is a master mech at the dealership if it was true and said that it could not fit a V12 stock. And yes it would seem that it would be able to hold a V12because it is two sixes side by side, but Ive been told it cant. Im not sure why it is, mabye a V12 is too wide (the 7 series with V12s are pretty wide). The guy I know has many years as a BMW master mech and gets alot of training on every model when it comes out, he is going to chicago soon to get training on the new M5, I belive what he says. He is not just some dealer who only learns the info he needs to sell the car.

He is wrong. That is all there is to it. He may be know a lot about how BMWs work stock but I highly doubt he learned whether or not a V-12 would or wouldn't fit into an e36 3-series. Also BMW hasn't made an automobile V-10 until the new M5 one right?

I know that RD put a V12 in a ti, if you read the first part of the thread you would know that. I can see that there is a V12 in that car and thats awsome, but they had to modify it in some way to make it fit.

I've read in one of the BMW magazine publications that the V12 will not fit "Without modifications" to the engine mounting points and frame. So, it's not a matter of right or wrong......anything is possible. In one of "Performance BMW" edition last year, a GM V8 from the current GTO was shoe-horned into the E30 chassis. Again....ANYTHING is possible when you have the cash to cover it.....

Yeah I know its possible but like you said, its not possible with out modifcation.

SewickleyBMW
01-07-2006, 03:59 AM
I think you just need the proper mounts, which aren't that hard to have fab'd up and don't cost too much. From those pics, you can tell the motor fits between the strut towers so looking at my M I think it definately fits without and custom body work. The mounts are a no brainer and are pretty much required for any motor swap, not just the V12.

S10mafia50
01-07-2006, 08:19 AM
Most engine swaps require new engine mounts, heck, the s10 requires new mounts for the v8, it is ignorant to think that you just drop a motor in. Mounts always have to be changed, therefore people just take that as routine modification, it is so easy that I don't even call swaping mounts a modification. Anyways, I don't think anything other than the usual stuff when swapping an engine. I still want it

An engine swap is a modification in itself. A pretty dang major one, at that, and you're nitpicking motor mounts and banging away at the suspension towers.

SDKmann

I know it is a mod. Im not retarded. But you have to do other mods before you can do the engine swap mod.
