My beater is no fun. I want to sell it, and invest in the best snow tires possible.,

I have a set of 17x7.5" chrome antera wheels that I could use fir the winter. Should I mount like 195x45x17 or something snow tires on my 332ti and call it a day? I have m3 brakes, so nothing under 17" will fit.

I had a supercharger, open diff, traction control, and also 10 year old blizzaks last winter. Driving at 40mph in 1" deep snow was a white knuckle experience, as the back allways felt twitchy, and moved side to side a bit. Those were 235 mm wide tires, a mistake on my part.

Right now I have a lot more low end torque, and no more traction control. I did gain an LSD though. So if I got thinner tires for those 17x7.5" wheels, and the best snow tires, would it be just as scarry as last winter?

Or should I rock my 88 civic with new allseason tires, and 5 speed.

I don't care about the winter damage to the paint or bumper, as I plan to redo that later.

Go for these tyres with 205/50/r17. I have them in 195/65/R15 and they are great in snow. I think that nokian are the best at winter tyres.

Good luck without Traction Control. I can get the tail end to slide out at highway speeds if it's snowing.

Rock the Civic, save your car. It sucks but winters not that long.

These are the tires Bavauto.com sells with the winter tire package.

is there anyone here with a 3.2 and driving the snow?

LSD + power + snow = major pain in the ass. If you thought your back was twitchy before, try driving in the snow with an LSD and no traction control. Gas pedal control becomes crutial.

My advice: beat the Civic. :)

i'm leaning this way too again. The idea of 6" of snow actually makes me excited to try to plow it in the FWD torque monster with no rear interior(good for oversteer)

great news. Roads in Philly are dry 90% of the time, and I'm enjoying it to the fullest

hey, my gf moved from philly! she did her residency and fellowship there. man, the roads IN philly suck! lol ... some of those potholes can swallow you up. i was sort of glad i never had my car there. she had this POS 95 ford ranger FWD that i was always afraid would break down (CEL light on, trans light came on and i had to put fluid in the auto trans, shocks felt like they were gone) ... and she wanted to drive that thing out here to colorado, lol.

at which hospital?

The roads here are OK, just some potholes will own you. I bent my rims, and it cost an arm and a leg to fix

I have a 332ti w/ LSD and a set up of used (but good shape) Blizzaks... live in SE Iowa and it goes like a champ in the snow. I was worried because I had a '97 M3 w/ the little traction control crap and a different (older set) of snows and it didn't get around well, but the ti is doing amazingly well.

The LSD makes the power slides controllable and quite fun.

Same issue for me... I have an 88 Sentra which is ok in the snow... I think I am going to get rid of it after the winter is over and hopefully buy some old xi bimmer to run in the snow...

E46 and on = xi (325xi, 330xi)

prior to the E46 (way prior really, late 80's early 90's) = iX (325iX, 525iX)

Don't ask me why BMW is just crazy with those letters. Just like the Li and iL I think too.

i got a 3.2 w/ an lsd and i did have the same problem. i went from 17x8 to the e46 m3 stagered rims. i had to change my rear hubs to 90 e30 m3 hubs (-20mm) to accomidate the 18x9 rear rims. im also ridding on g-force tires (great in snow) and they are by far the best tires i have ever bought. they are pricy but worth it.
