I have had my ti for about 3 months and a very interesting 3 months it has been. On the night I got my liscince and my ti I was pulled over for speeding and recived my first speeding ticket. Five days later I got off the hook because the officer made a mistake, but it still scared the crap out of me. At first I thought it was incredible bad luck and then a miricle (the getting off part). Today I have gone back to the incredible bad luck part. There was a light layer of snow and ice on the ground, enough that you could slide but not enough that you could really see it. I was approaching a stop light when I found that I was sliding towrd the car in front of me and my brakes were not helping. I rear-ended her and told her to pull over to exchange info.. From what I saw from inside the car, I thought I had got lucky and not caused too much damage. I hadnt', not on her car anyway. I had cracked a small peice of her bumper and that was it. My car was not so lucky. Since her car was and SUV I should have known it was going to be bad. The top right side of my hood was crunched and the right headlight was pushed in. My grills are destroyed and so is the metal that holds them in place. If anyone has had a similar experience or knows where I can get good replacement parts that would be appreciated.

Everyone reads the new posts. You don't need to post in two different sections.

i figure everything happens for a reason, but sometimes you have to wait awhile to see what it is. if it hadn't been for my diff having issues, i would have never found this site (maybe some people are wishing i hadn't, lol)! i've had some bad situations in relationships, but i've always grown from those situations. keep your head up, you'll get through it and likely you'll have learned a number of things by the end of it :)

I second this notion.

If you got pulled over for speeding, your car isn't cursed; you just need to drive slower.
If you rear-ended someone, your car isn't cursed; you just need to not tailgate people.

Replacement parts can be found at bavauto.com, pelicanparts.com, etc.

In snow, especially in a relatively light RWD car, you have to leave A LOT of extra space for braking. If you would've left the appropriate amount of space so you didn't have to press on the brakes hard enough to slide around, you wouldn't have rear ended her.

From the sounds of it, you don't have much experience driving. A, your drive fast enough to get speeding tickets, which means you were driving very fast and/or completely oblivious to the fact that there are police out there. Also means you were not paying attention. B, since you were probably driving too fast for the conditions and driving to close and not paying attention you rear ended the lady in the SUV. Maybe take a driving course, learn the limits of your car. And don't wreck the car, it is already rare enough. Basically it sounds like you are young. And I did all the same stupid things when I was young too, just not in such a nice car.

Even on a dry road, it probably would have taken you more than 20-25 ft to stop.

As a 9 year State Trooper who is currently on a military leave of absence (much better money as an Army officer), I can say that I rear ended another car at the ripe age of 16. Too close for sure, and too fast in general.
We here in WV are State Police, as opposed to a Highway Patrol, which means that while on the Interstate, I may be going to interview a murderer, burglar or such and will only stop someone if they are being stupid. Such as extreme high speed or reckless driving. I had 6 points on my license when I joined, and then went by the saying "you want to play, you got to pay". Now, after 9 years of blood and gore I have slowed quite a bit. I used to look at a car for it's looks, but now go to the crash ratings... Sad, but true.
My advice for winter driving or any other is: Always assume the other driver is an idiot, who will do stupid things that you would never do. I lived in Germany for 4 years and would draft off of another car on the autobahn without hesitation after observing the driver for a bit. The drivers there are highly trained and most there were very professional drivers. Humans in general are skittish, unpredictable and will do the thing you least want or expect at least 50% of the time.
Try to find a good post high driving school (Bondurant or such) and have at it. I am a military airplane pilot now after having flown helicopters for 22 years. I am still learning the airplane thing as it is new to me. Don't tell the General's and such that I fly... Keep at it and you'll be fine. Just seeing that you're willing to listen to those of us on this forum is more than encouraging! No donut jokes...

I slid for 20-25 ft. The other car was stopped at a stop light and I hadnt been behind it until then. I had started braking sooner then 20-25 ft. and thats what slowed me down enough to keep from doing serious damage, then I hit a huge patch of ice/snow and slid.

HEY HEY HEY. Give the guy a break... I sure as hell didnt buy a beemer to drive like a damn granny!!!
Black ice can be a real devil, its worst than hydro-plaining.
Speeding tickets... Come on all of you on here have a clean record??
Our cars look sporty, fast, and expensive... Those are all the things that attract a police officers eyes when they are doin speed checks!
Not always the driver...
With that said,

i agree with buck, assume everyone is a fool. i do and i'm never disappointed.
if i can help it, i never drive behind someone for the reason that most drivers are brake junkies and love stopping for cute, fury critters.
last years a deer ran into my TI, ripping off the mirror, and denting the door, which was replaced. believe me, anything is possible, keep your eyes opened.

did the anti-lock brakes activate?Anti-lock brakes do little on snow or ice. More has to do with the camber of the road. You can steer all you want but if the front tires aren't bitting, youa re just a passenger.

My step son's car was hit by a dear in the exact same way. Geico had a local body shop make a quote to fix the damage under comprehensive and we just paid the deductible. Hopefully it's that easy for you guys, too.
