I deleted the belt going to my a/c and I am not planning in removing all of it. Now I know that the a/c works off of freon, but how would I go about discharging it? Any one else removed the a/c?

Don't discarge the A/C. I don't think your defroster is going to work either.

You could have just loosened the bolt on the idler pulley..that way you can put it back on using the parts you removed.

I am not sure of the differences of years for the defroster, but I don't have a defroster button. It is just a position for the air to come out. I have been able to keep the windshield fog free so far with no a/c.

A/C plumbing is touchy. If you NEVER plan on putting it back on, just undo to piping. The freon will evaporate. You're not supposed to do this, because it damages the Ozone layer. You're supposed to take it somewhere, but screw that, just let it blow.

Getting it recharged can be pricey, so only do this if you never plan on using it.

It blows fairly warm still. I was just hoping freon wouldn't kill me. So no I really never plan on putting it back in. I hardly used it during the summer because it drained so much power. It was more of an irritation than anything. Maybe I am just weird.

Would you give me your air conditioning and I would give you my stock blower?

It's really hot in sommer time here so an AC unit would really help.

DASC would take care of that....

You can actually gain power by just cutting the belt ?I thought the a/c system was clutched or somthing like that?

I think I am going to go a different route...the only problem is going to be getting the crankshaft.

The system has a magnetic clutch. I doubt it gained much power if any. The engine does run quieter and possibly a little better throttle response. The main benefits would be increased cooling to the radiator by removal of the condenser, weight reduction by removal of the rest of the associated components.

Andrei--I am still unsure as to whether or not I will fully delete the a/c or not.

I have an M42 TI. If I remove the whole AC system, will my heating still work?

I think they are different systems so heating would still work. There is quite a bit to remove for the A/C. I think the whole system weighs about 50 lbs.

I've been thinking about it.
I want to do it with my mechanic. I want to remove the whole thing... AC pulley, belt, compressor, AC radiator... All of it.
WOn't there be any side effects to this mod?

i live in england. i'd rather burn during the small amount of hot weather time we have than have it on the car anyway ;)

marcus, everything else still works? No warning lights on the cluster? Any side effects of any kind?

Discharging is fun.

no nothing why would it be a problem? it has no effect on anything. you just cant use your ac

How exactly did you go about removing all of the AC. Looking at the condenser in front of the radiator I am not sure how I would pull that out after taking care of all the bolts?
Also the lines running to the fire wall did you take out the battery to remove those?
How did you get the bottom two bolts off the compressor? I am having trouble with that due to a limits amount of space to work with.

i took the lines off first. I had to pull the comperssor to pull the motor. The lines for the ac cover one of the bolts. once you discharge the ac then just pull the bolts off for the ac lines and unbolt the compressor. i had the engine bay stripped when i did it so i am not sure what i had to remove but i think the wiring harness was out also at the time. the wiring harness might be in the way. Hope that helps. the front rad is easy just a few bolts. If you still have problems just private message me and ill give you my number
