I'm thinking about dropping down $150 for this shifter, but am wondering whether it's reliable or not. Any feedback would help:cool:

I don't know about B&M. They've been around a long time.
I can't tell by the picture if it's any good.
For that kind of stuff I stick with UUC Motorwerks (http://www.uucmotorwerks.com) products. Of course UUC is twice the price.

Also see http://www.318ti.org/forum/showthread.php?t=6088
In fact, read through these (http://www.318ti.org/forum/search.php?searchid=95909) threads.

I don't know about B&M. In my ti I have a modified M3 shifter I got from understeer and I couldn't be happy! The throw distance and feeling are exactely right!

it really depends on what you want to achieve with the SSK (short shift kit). do you generally like the feel and action of your stock shifter and just want to shorten the throw? if so, the B&M or even using stock bmw parts (from other models) to shorten the throw could well be enough for you. using the stock bmw parts method will be much cheaper than the B&M. i bought z3 parts to do this and then decided i'd get a SSK from auto solutions. i'll be selling those parts within a month or so i imagine.

if you want to eliminate slop that even a new stock shifter would have, you'll need to replace more than just the shifter "stick" itself (which pretty much looks like all the B&M kit there would do). other options such as the UUC kit steven mentioned, auto solutions (which i bought), rogue engineering or others. actually, these companies typically also make just shifter stick options as well, but they usually aren't cheap.

http://www.autosolutions.net/ this site also gives a very detailed and thorough explanation of where slop comes into the stock bmw shifter mechanism so it's good to read regardless of where you end up getting a SSK.

good luck choosing :)

Cali-ti: do you have the AS kit installed? Did it take out the slop? Please keep me informed and PM a price and part list on your Z3 parts when you sell. Thanks dude.

BTW linkee no workee and Ima lazee.
