Im considering trading in my ti in about a year. Could anyone tell me about how much the club sports are going for? Also what would you recommend as an alternitive to a ti club sport (staying within BMW)?

Prices vary so much. We have seen from real low for nice ones to real high.
I don't think there is any rhyme or reason. The are worth what someone is willing to pay at the time.

A good alternative would be a E30 325is.

Are you saying you want a Club Sport or have one?

90/91 318is
90/91 325is
then you could go with this.
99 M Roadster/Coupe

You could just spend some money get the M3 kit, get an H&R/Bilstein suspension or coil-overs, and sway bars. Then you would have something that performs as well/better than the clubsport and looks the same. Interior bits would be more difficult. I can see the reasoning for wanting the clubsport though since there werent very many of them, it has the M42 engine, first US year for the ti etc.

No ASC+T in the Club Sport.
A nice Limited Slip
plus your ODB 1
and a wonderful motor with the M44

plus the best e36 interior in the line.

Did you mean M42?

I forgot about those things since my car didn't come with ASC+T and was optioned with the LSD stock. woops The interior is nice.

What is the M3 kit? Is it just a M3 motor? Ive been considering doing a swap but would it be cheaper to just trade in my car for a club sport? Also why would the interior swap be a problem?

M3 kit = side mouldings, bumper covers, mirrors, etc.

Interior on a true club sport will be black leather + red millpoint. Hard to find a complete interior.

My '98 has the 'red' sport interior (CS interior, but added rear head rests).

They were available after the CS, but even I was hesitant to get the 'red' interior, as it does not quite match the bright red exterior.

I'm glad I did get it, because you are absolutely right: the CS and later Sport interior is the best looking / feeling interior offered; AND has the aded benifit of being essentially identical to the '95 M3 LTW seats (but the LTW has all-cloth seating) so you know the weight is reasonable.

VERY nice interior, but the point I'm making is it was available in sports after 1995 as well; however I think it was only avilable in red and black cars (like the CS) anyway.

So, if you want that interior, check all red and black sports you find for the black/red interior. It may be in there!

That's true. In fact the first convrted ti I rode in (which sealed the fate of my car) was a 97 sport, white, with the red interior.

I've not seen it in a silver car, but I bet that looks $hit-hot!

you could get mill point in blue and black.

found a 97 or 98 Avus Blue Sport with it.

I would have gotten it, if the mechanic lean was put on it as I was hoping.

Would it be cheaper to do an engine/trans swap of buy a new car?

AlaskaBlue

Maybe not, but you would have an M3 engine. If you purchased another ti clubsport or otherwise you would still have the same 4 cylinder engine. If 318tis actually went for KBB value they could be had for 3-4k dollars, but I have seen a huge variation in cost. A swap generally runs about 4-6k with used parts. If you want an upgraded suspension that will be between 600-2000 dollars depending on what you get done. Race seats if that is what you want would be about 1000 dollars for the pair and all the acessories. Brakes conversions run about 400 dollars. So at the most for a really amazing ti you would spend a little under 10,000 dollars. I know what I would do.

then it wouldn't have been a 318ti but rather a 330ti club sport ;)

the M42 without ASC+T can give you a handful at times by it's self.
no need for an extra 100hp and 60/40 weight.

J!m

The weight is not that bad, but I have not cornerweighted it as of yet to verify this.

The motor sits further back when converted, and the additional weight of the beefed-up diff and (possibly) trans even things out a bit. (and I cheated and moved my front wheels forward a bit too)

It is lighter overall than the M3 (by about 400 pounds), and most of the weight loss is in the rear, but I don't think it's as bad as 60/40. The ti has a lighter rear suspension, and a bit less steel in the body, but a much larger piece of glass.

I have ben planning to at least get to a cat scale and weigh the front and rear axles seperately to give an idea, I just haven't done it yet.

This spring I will do it!!!

Ok, so if the club sport dose not have the I6 what dose it have that makes it different? How much faster is it than a base or sport model?

AlaskaBlue
02-01-2006, 06:08 PM
It has the M42 I4 just like any other 95 318ti. Acceleration wise it isn't faster. The club sport had a slightly better suspension.

Yes a lot. If you have some more questions a PM maybe a better option.

The Reason for having a Club Sport, is just to have one.

like a MTechic from 94 or 95 M535i(Canada Special M car for the same year as the Club Sport IIRC) or a 2002 Turbo or a M3 LTW or S54 Z3M. This list can go on and on

They are just one of the Special cars BMW built that should be loved.
