sell ur car and find one already stick. Less headache problems.

I'd probably agree with that too...

BUT I will say it will be easie to go from auto to stick than stick to auto.

Probably need a re-map of the ecu as there is a second ECU for the transmission, which I'm quite certain will be talking to the engine ECU for loading, engine RPM etc...

Put it in 'sport mode' and keep your eyes peeled for a stick.

the subject has been discussed in a couple other threads. i'm guessing they're in the trans area so just try some simple searches.

dusten did a tran swap and i think hes driving around with the cel on. I wouldnt like to be driving around with the cel on. What if you really have a problem, but u keep thinking its just the tranny?? THINK THINK

The tranny swap is easy. Any mechanic can do it. The parts list for it is HUGE. Unless you have $$ invested in it, just sell it and buy a Ti with a stick.

but Dusten has the knwledge to know the CEL light is only the transmission swap! It's that or a nice custom harness at a costly price i bet.... work it out.

I know what you mean and I will like to keep the car. I've put so much work and money into it. But I'm still not pleased. I will be moving up to an M3 within a month, thats why I mentioned selling mine. I did some more research and found out that there is a diffrence in the ecu between the auto and manual. Thats probably why dusten's light is on.

http://www.zionsvilleautosport.com/store/shop.mv?Store_Code=6134&Screen=PLST&Ecode=e36&Year=1996&Model=318ti&BodyStyle=2DH I found this site that has a few used parts. don't sound too bad at all.

I did it; cost me $4,000 Canadian (approx. $3,500 USD) for a full m3 tranny install & SSK.

Here's my thread about it:

if u gonna go m3 then dont bother doing the swap. Leave it as is and sell it.

m-technik_ti was able to find a mechanic that was competent enough to do the swap and fix the CEL.

The CEL doesn't both me, I have the code reader and I run my codes whenever I feel something strange. Eventually I'll pull on the old Bentley manual and figure out how to wire it up correctly.
